    Pricing for selling a bike?

Thanks to some medical bills I'm going to sell a couple of bikes via Craigslist. I just don't know how to price them.

I have a Sirrus Comp that retailed around 900 dollars when I bought it. Not even sure why Specialized wanted so much for it unless it's the carbon fork and I think the carbon seat post. I'd ride it more if I could put wider wheels on it for rural NE but I can't. It just doesn't look like a 900 dollar bike either being completely black either.

If I sell it via Craigslist what's a good asking price? I already put up my Madone the other day. Just not sure how to price the Sirrus.

I would put them for sale here, but have no way of shipping out a bike or even access to boxes to put one in.

I had actually planned to sell both to get a Pugsley or a Mukluk. Seems crazy I know, given the Madone is a higher end bike, but sucks for rural NE roads.

I have no idea on pricing, especially as these bikes are pretty new. But I wouldn't worry so much about shipping, especially the more expensive Madone, as you could have your LBS box it up for you.

    Good luck!

I sold my Fuji Finest on Craigslist. I paid $600 in 2009 (theoretically lists for $900 but they are always on sale at Performance Bikes). I rode it for 1 1/2 years, 6000 miles, took pretty good care of it except for a number of clipless pedal incidents so it was a little scuffed up. I asked $350 and my goal was to get $300, which is what I got.

I sell a lot of stuff on CL. My MO is to do a lot of searches first for similar items to help set prices. Bike prices can be all over the place. People are selling a lot of crap bikes. (next etc) it seems like there's less junk in the road bike grouping. The bottom line is how fast do you want to get rid of it? If you are committed to getting your money out of it, it may take a while.

You could find a bike shop to pack it for you. Beware of scanners though!!

Anyway for a $900 bike I think you be lucky to get $400 for it.

For pricing guidance, I would check completed listings in eBay and check Craigslist in various cities. For example, I'd check Seattle and Portland, simply because I think their "bike market" is more liquid, a lot more buyers and sellers.

Thanks for the help. I put the Madone at 1600 since Trek has them on clearance for 2000. How did a nearly 3000 dollar bike drop so low over the summer? I paid 2600 for it and hate to lose that much for it but if you can get the same model brand new for 2000 dollars I figured 1600 was about right.

If my LBS can ship out a bike, great. I didn' think to ask them. They would have the right size boxes and know how to put the bike in safely.

    The Madone is 56 cm.

you can always price it: so much or best offer. So put the price at what you want to get for it, and so long as it isn't ridiculous (like what you paid new) people will make offers. If you price it too high, no one will even try.
    good luck.

I sold the bike on Monday. Hopefully she loves the Madone.
