welcome to the board Fender! Looking at a new bike?? How wonderful for you! There are several NC ladies here and a HUGE contigent of Mass Ladies and ex_Mass Ladies! Have fun and ask away, if we don't know the answer, we just make one up anyway! (ok....no we don't really but someone on here somewhere will know the answer!)
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Most memorable moment on my bike: The lie I told at age 7 involved a bike accident in a place I wasn't supposed to be riding at the time. Must have been memorable as I still remember it.
Nope. I don't remember that one. I remember you couldn't keep a secret very well, like your Dad's present ("No, it's not a secret. It's a book." (woops) "No, it's not a book because it's a secret." (too late)) or the chocolate "cake" you made, ate, cleaned up ... and that we'd never have known about if you hadn't taken a picture of it. But I don't remember a lie about a bike accident. I guess you're forgiven.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

Getting to know you - mmelindas

    Real name: Melinda
Where do you live? Salt Lake City, Utah

Explanation of your handle: Because I am a forgetful old fart, this is the only user name I can ever remember - how's that for boring?

Explanation of your avatar:what's an avatar?

Age (general or specific): 62 but think like a 23 year old.

    Occupation: Retired elementary teacher

Favorite bike: the Cyclone 60 I rode as a kid.

What's in your stable? 2006 LaJolla Ladies Cruiser

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? (does pushing it count?) I think I never got faster than 5 miles an hour. I am terrified of getting hurt!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? coming soon to theatres near you. (okay, I will upload one when I get hubby to shoot one of me.)

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: That the sex I just had was great!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Still to come!

Explanation of your handle: Marca after mum’s father, Marcus. Lee after mum’s mother, Virlee, and dad’s father, Lee.

Explanation of your avatar: uh…technophobe…can’t figure out how to upload it…

Favorite bike: My TREK Madone 5.5 (2006) with embellishments

What's in your stable? My TREK Madone 5.5 (2006) with embellishments

Fastest speed on a road bike? Where? When? (That I can recall/retell.) 24.5 mi/h, yesterday, descent from Skyline Blvd. down Old German Town Road in Portland, OR. The air was chilly, the road was winding, and the experience was quite gripping—like, I think I need new brake pads now!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? uh…technophobe…can’t figure out how to upload it…

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: to myself, that I did not need many friends; I find that I do.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Completing my first MS150 Houston to Austin ride. I was 20. I did it alone. I loved the whole experience. The 90 miles on the first day. Walking up the hill in Bastrop State Park. Getting my achy legs going for the second day of 70 miles. Collapsing to the ground upon arrival at the finish—legs forgot how to stand—was fine—the broad unmoving ground felt quite nice. It was the first time I think I ever actually amazed myself.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Anytime I get out is a fun time. I love each ride’s challenges—the athletic (the pain), the mental (come on…get out there and ride). It is all good. You know?

Most memorable moment on my bike: i would have to say anytime i see wild animals. you see so much that you wouldn't see flying by at 55 mph in a car.

    Real name: Erica

Where do you live? Montreal, Canada

Explanation of your handle: I lived on Maui for a while and lilikoi (ie passion fruit) -- the wild, tiny, bruised ones you find growing in the jungle -- is by far the tastiest fruit I have ever experienced. I get really happy just thinking about lilikoi. Yum!

Explanation of your avatar: Haven't get that far yet

    Age (general or specific): 25

    Occupation: Teacher, wanna-be grad student

Favorite bike: I don't know enough about them yet to have a favorite...

What's in your stable? Marinoni 1997 road/tri bike, Kona Fire Mountain hardtail mtb.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 31 or so, down a hill in Colorado, on my mountain bike.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? None!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Honestly... I have no idea. Tend to have a selective memory

Most memorable moment on my bike: flying down some single-track in Colorado Springs without a problem, only to biff it while practically standing still, couldn't get my foot out of the pedal so came crashing down with my bike on top of me, and having to have my ex help me untangle myself from the bike. Still have the "1mph" scars on my elbow...

Most fun ever had on a bike? See above. Laughed so hard I cried...

So, yeah. Joined the boards at Trek420's suggestion. Have ridden mtb's for a while but doing a half-ironman in june, so i figured a road bike and some road bike knowledge would be in order.

    Cheers, ladies...

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I'll have some updated pix of my bikes on my website very soon.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: no comment

Most memorable moment on my bike: probably my very first ride on a bike when I was five years old. I still remember that bike (a candy red CCM s/s),the thrill, and the sense of freedom. I feel the same way every time I strap on a bike and go riding.

Most fun ever had on a bike? No one experience stands out. Exploring new trails and discovering new places to ride rate highly on the fun meter.
