When Trek did move manufacturing to China?

Does anyone know when Trek moved it's main manufacturing to China? I've been all over the internet trying to figure it out.

The 2005 Trek 1000 I'm borrowing from a friend has no "made in China" label but I can't find a "made in USA" one either??

    I got curious.

FWIW, according to this thread on bikeforums.net and this ad for an earlier model, the 1000 was made in China from when they revived the model name in 2000. Trek's official history conspicuously omits any mention of Asian manufacturing.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Weird how you can find plans for a nuclear power plant online... but not manufacturing info on a bicycle.

I ride a trek pilot 5.2 that was bought as a closeout model in 2004 which says made in the USA on it. Wonder if at various times they put various models out to " helping hands overseas."?

I think the 5.2 has a carbon frame, no? I think Trek made carbon frames here longer then the ALU frames.

Some bikes were moved overseas over a period of time.

My Trek T2000 tandem (2005) has made in USA and all the tandems until Trek stopped making them in 2009 were made in the USA.

My shop sold a Trek bike to a man from Taiwan who wanted a "Made in USA" bike, so he bought a 7.6Fx (or was is 7.7?). The FX line less than 7.6 was made in Asia. He had the bike shipped to Taiwan.
