I use mapmyride.com, but like others have pointed out their elevations are not accurate.
You may also want to talk to your LBS folks & local club about what existing local routes are used. I also recommend getting involved with a club in the area. I know that's not for everyone, but it's a great way to meet people & find riding buddies.
