The ones I mentioned are actually almost like an over shoe. The bottom is intended to be cut to make a space for your cleat. They are cool because they cover your whole shoe so your nice Sidi's stay nice and clean :-) They are very thermal too, has thermal fleece and neoprene both.

Like time trailling socks? You stretch them over your shoes and cut them for the cleat?

DH had some made from knitted yarn (De Feet) and soon wore a hole in the toe from unclipping and balancing on his foot at stops. Came to the conclusion that the fabric ones are for TT only.

I wonder if diving booties might work?

I just bought a pair of these this fall...haven't had cold enough temps to try them out yet (strange November...). They have a pre-cut hole for your cleat but are fairly thick neoprene with a rubber toe-kick (not the whole sole). Maybe they're close to what you're looking for?

I don't know...I still say that the Pearl Izumi shoe covers that I've been using would fit the bill for what you are looking for. They cover my entire shoe and go up past my ankles, are water-resistant, have a rubber bottom with a large opening for cleats that do not need to be cut any further, have a velcro closure in the back (some covers have a zipper closure), and keep my feet plenty warm.

WR, I gave Catrin some PI shoe covers last year for her to try that, last I heard, didn't end up working with her cycling shoes. I can't remember now if I told her to just pass them onto someone else or return them to me when we next saw one another, but if she still has them and doesn't want them, you are welcome to them instead. For what little winter cycling I do, I prefer toe covers and chemical warmers. You might like them. If memory serves, they have some rubber around the cleat opening and zip in the back.

Yes, I still have them. I was holding them for the next time I saw you. Perfect timing, as it works out
