Hmm, a quick whirl over at bikeforums reveals that the term Fred appears to be used to describe any non-elite non-racer biker who may not wear matching team kit, may be riding a bike worth less than $3K, and might even *gasp* have hairy legs!!!

HA. Poor guys. What percent of them can be elite enough to be the "non-freds" on their board? So the rest of them have to brag about stuff to keep them out of fred-ness? Of course, the great thing is...it's so easy to lie in cyberspace! Uh, yeah, my bike cost...um, a ga-zillion dollars. Even the wheels are carbon. My shoes? Carbon. Also my bike shorts.

You should see the speeds they post. And - oh how they love to brag about how low their body fat% is. It's nauseating.

You mean other than the occaisional visitor, authorised DH, SO asking TE gals for help with the perfect gift (I gotta say not only are the gals here great but your Team Testosterone guys are swell too! I've ridden with Lee'Bob and Bubbah, met Bike Goddess's SO when he picked us up after the AIDS ride and saw us off on Day 1, and of course I know Bikeless and UK's SO's....nice men folk).

On my regular motorcycling website there was a guy who pretended to be a woman, he PM'd women on the site and tried to establish personal "girlfriend" type relationships...only to cross waaaay over the line into creepy borderline staking.

I will never understand the urge to hurt or humiliate another person for sport.

They call them "racer weenies" or "weight weenies". And for those who care more about how they look than how much they actually ride, bikeforums has a special name: OCPs (Obsessive-Compulsive Poseurs). Some of the OCPs actually do a nice job of making fun of themselves about it, even while they continue to obsess about getting the handlebar tape to match the kit, and the booties, and the helmet and the tires...who says girls are the ones who get wound up over accessories??

Hey, some of those terms are not mutually exclusive! My Fred is both a weight weenie and a techno geek!! But only on his mountain bike - he consider the road bike training for mtb only (as do I), so if it weighs a lot, that's just harder training!

Now we both have a tendency to wear clothing that matches, especially that matches our bikes - but that's why the bikes are black! heehee

Can we be OCF's? (obssessive compulsive Freds)

There are some on this site who are men. One has openly admitted it although I can't recall his name. All men who are respectful, helpful, thoughtful and genuinely interested in the thread are more than welcome to participate.
