kindle reader on android tablet?

I'm about to break down and buy a tablet of some sort. Not sure if I want Kindle fire or e-paper based kindle.

Then I found kindle reader for MAC and PC. Out of curiosity I checked if there was a kindle reader for android

There are some cheap android "powered" devices.

Now I know you get what you pay; but, I found some really cheap android powered tablet computers on Amazon. color with 7" or 8" screen for around $80-$160 and comes with features i care about WiFi and mini USB so I can hook up my 3G modem. 3G allows me to not depend on hot spot.

Now mind you these are not brand names. some are called woPad. I think they meant wowPad. Chinese English, something got lost in translation and no offense meant for Chinese. It is made in China...

$80.00 is so tempting... Do I want to risk it? or should I just take the plunge and buy HP tablet for $250.00

Has anyone bought any off brand products? One reviewer on Amazon said that the reviews of the off brand were mostly fake to make you complacent about the product.

Tough call...

I bought a Pandigital reader from Best Buy awhile back. I'm not sure if the Android Market lets you use tablets to download their apps yet. You can put Kindle on it via Amazon. You need a SD card and have Amazon email you the link so you can download it onto the card. It will then upload into your tablet. I don't remember the exact directions, but that was the idea. It runs on the Android format.

Only problems with the Pandigital are the response time and battery life. It's actually a nice reader if you want the backlighting and fits into your purse easier than an iPad. You have full internet access as well.

The more expensive tablets have faster response times, more memory, and are better built. Pandigital also has Barnes and Noble's Nook already installed so you can buy their books as well.

I was tempted by an android tablet from China for way cheap. Then I remembered what happened to my palm pilot eons ago when the calibration went out of whack and thought better of it. My friends have been using the Samsung Galaxy Tablet and its really great. Prices on that has been dropping like mad in Asia so you should definitely look and see if the price is low enough on Amazon.

My mom is going through the exact same thing - which to get. She currently has a first generation kindle and loves it so much she thinks she wants to "upgrade". I love my nook Color.

I'm not sure why you want a Kindle reader app but I use Nook apps because I can buy Google books from my local independent book store. No can do with Kindle (at least within the last week).

While I was debating if I should cough up for a Kindle, I got a new Android phone. I downloaded the Kindle app, and while it's small, it's great for "emergency" read, like when I'm waiting for someone. I'll probably still end up getting a Kindle, but this is nice and handy.

I've actually done a fair amount of Sony reading on my phone in the same situation. It's easier to read than you might think. The small chunks make up for the backlit screen.

Kindle Fire is on sale really cheap! and in color. They will be mailing them out mid november (I'm getting one!)

I have the kindle DX which is great, but unnecessary. I bought it before I got my iphone. Had I known I was due for a smartphone upgrade, I wouldn't have bothered with the 3G kindle. Anyway, I find I read using the kindle app on my iphone a LOT. I actually use it it more than I do my kindle because I always have my phone with me and sometimes, I just don't want to carry the kindle. I shrunk the text so more fits on each screen, so even for a fast reader, it's not nearly the problem I thought it would be.

I don't know anything about those off-brand tablets, but typically, you do get what you pay for in electronics. As an employee of a company that makes parts for all the major brands of tablets, personally I'd rather see you buy one of those.

Well, I received my droid tablet today. Had to pay additional postage. The seller is devious in that its an additional charge I had to pay to my mail carrier

Well it's going to show up on Amazon review for the guy. It's the principle of things.

I have no instruction on how to operate the Droid so I've been fiddling with it most of the day. I also had to go and buy a microSD card for it so I could download pdf reader for it. Kindle was already loaded along with flash player 10.1 So made things easier. I also had to download Amazon aps store application. Took me about an hour to figure how the whole thing works... Still not sure how I did it but it worked.

Just bought my first kindle book "This Time is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly". It's finally on my tablet. Took me another hour or so to figure out how to navigate on kindle.

Overall, it's pretty easy to use the droid tablet even without a manual. and the Kindle book store, I am afraid, is going to be very expensive for me. I also have several books in pdf format and they are also in my tablet. Some of the books are big and heavy so reading off the tablet is so much easier. I like it.

And because it is relatively cheap I don't have to worry whereas if the tablet was an iPAD or Samsung's Galaxy or any other tablet that cost $$$, I couldn't take it outside of my house. Too scared. At less than $80 with the additional postage, I'm not too worried.

this is probably going to sound dumb, but "you can get a kindle app on iPhone?" I have the iReader but if I can get the kindle app I'll use that one as I'm likely going to get a kindle for Christmas and I'd rather have them sync'd. Whenever I find myself with a bit of time, I do read the free books I downloaded on the iBooks. It's small, but definitely do-able and oh-so-convenient!

ha, just found it and am pleased it's free! I probably won't need to get a Kindle now.

As you've already discovered, yes! The part I like is that there is a 'cloud' dimension to it all in that if I read on my kindle app on my phone or on my laptop (yes, I have it there, too), it automatically syncs with my kindle the next time I use it in a wifi (or in my case, 3G), location. So I can read the same book on all devices and it keeps my page and notations.

I did find it hung up on a couple of my free books once, but it's been flawless on anything I've purchased.

By the way, I've been reading the classics I never read in school for free on Kindle. I just finished Pride and Prejudice and Treasure Island and now I have the adventures of Sherlock Holmes to read next.

yeah, I have to sync my kindle, I noticed I don't have anything in there right now - I have a couple of books on sample when I used it on my android phone, but I guess that probably wasn't sync'd.

I'm reading Persuasion by Jane Austen right now - I saw the movie but never read the book. It's great how it's all free!!

I found out I can check out Kindle books from my local library! They don't have a huge collection yet but hey, it's free!

I do use the iPhone Kindle app but since my eyes aren't great I have to turn up the font enough that I'm turning pages constantly. So the Kindle Touch is now on my Christmas list.
