Frustrated...

I WANT TO RIDE...though I do feel guilty about complaining, we didn't get any rain for so very long that we really need what we've received over the last week or so.

I could go mountain biking this weekend, but there are things to do if I am going to be headed to Tennessee to visit my mom in the next couple of weeks, and next weekend is the Brown County Breakdown. It is going to be pretty chilly this weekend, which I admit I am not ready for.

Frankly I would rather be on the trails rather than the road, but for once I don't have time for the 2.5 hour round-trip drive. So, unless it is just too windy, will pull out the wool this weekend and hopefully get a couple of decent rides in. I've not been on a road ride for over a week due to weather, thank goodness for spinning class and my mountain bike ride last weekend.

Ok, will stop complaining now...

At least I know that I am not unusual for getting so cold in 50 degree temps, I've a couple of friends who think I am odd for getting cold on the bike at 60 degrees...

I'm with you--I want to get out and ride, but for some reason it's only nice during the week when I'm in the lab, and it starts raining as soon as I leave.
Now it's gone all cold and windy and wet! It should be dry-ish, at least, tomorrow, so I'll hit the bike trail this weekend. I'll probably have to break out the jacket, though!

Ah, I can't relate, I'm a car-free commuter. I honestly find biking in the cold windy rain preferable to taking any sort of public transit. And the transit here is nice, I just can't take how slow it is to *walk* to the skytrain then *wait* for a bus. Gotta keep moving.

Same here in Michigan, rain all week has put the crimp on riding. Any nice days we had turned to rain by the time I left work. The bottom fell out of the thermometer and the wind is blowing up a gale. I'll need to bundle up for riding. Last year we had the most pleasant fall season I can ever remember. I want it back, whaaaaaaa.

We've had a lot of rain, too. While I haven't stopped riding, it's certainly been much less. I did about 50 miles total last weekend and this week I did a 13 mile and 18 mile ride. Today I was supposed to lead a 50 mile ride up to NH and we had to cancel. It's raining now, but I probably might be able to ride this afternoon. Otherwise, I will be running, hopefully outside and not on my treadmill. I don't mind riding in cool weather... 50's are my favorite riding temperature. I feel like I'm getting sluggish... keep debating about joining a gym again, but I just hate being inside, and I do have a "gym" in my house. I have just slacked off on the yoga, weights, etc. My goal is to reach 2500 miles by the end of next weekend, which means I have to do A LOT of riding.

Right now it's trying to decide whether or not it wants to rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be partly cloudy and windy. Okay, I can live with that!

Isn't it funny the different worlds we ride in?

Here it rains all the time, so we all ride in the rain. Little kids, racers, grandparents... obliviously riding in the rain.

But it doesn't snow much here. If it snows, I don't ride. Yet there are folks on the board who ride in the snow without a second thought.

If it hit 100 here, there's no way I'd ride. Heck, if it got over 80 I'd wilt. I am a fragile flower, and would be hiding in the shade with a gin and tonic. But some of you are zipping around in temperatures like that. You think 80 is a nice day, I think it's a heat emergency.

Today's paper, we had the hottest September on record! Weird. I have different rides for different temperatures, if it is over 95 I ride close to the river as it is always a few degrees cooler

And in my neck of the woods we have had the coldest and wettest September that I recall in a long time.

and right now we are having a delightful break from 5 months of temperatures in the mid 90 to three figures. Today's temp actually stayed below 90, all day! Low humidity for a change (although not unexpected since we are still nearly 8 months without significant rain). Knocked off 38 miles and had a delightful ride. It is supposed to remain cool all this week, cool being in the 80's although still no rain in the forecast. This has been a weird year weather wise, but today's ride could rate as perfect.

It is interesting how the human body can adapt - I would never deliberately ride in the rain, and here the Pacific NW members ride in it all the time. I understand that is the only way you can ride, so I would probably adjust if I were there

This week we are back in the 70's, and even 80 on Friday and Saturday when we are having an awesome event called the Brown County Breakdown - a few hundred of our closest mountain bike friends, special campground, bike demos, lots of beautiful single-track, bluegrass music and free beer in the evenings It is an all-weekend event, though the actual ride is on Sunday. Can't wait for those 80 degree temps, and not a rain drop in sight (yet).

I would never deliberately ride in the rain, either. I had my fill of it on my tour in August and it was not pretty. I have increased my tolerance for heat and cold riding, though. When I first started riding, if it was over 80-85 and humid, I headed to the gym. I never rode below 50 or so, either.
