I think it has to do with a lot of the ultra endurance swims following English Channel rules which do not allow wetsuits. Speaking of ultra swims, have any of you read "Swimming to Antarctica" by Lynne Cox? Amazing the things she has managed to do! After reading her book I just couldn't bring myself to put on a wetsuit for my ocean swims here...if she could acclimate to the temperatures she did for the length of time she was in there, I could certainly try to manage 60-degree water for 1.5 miles!!
