I don't get it. I hope she doesn't try again. I dont understand the point, after two valiant attempts. Human efforts to overcome nature perplex me.

Too bad :-) I was really cheering for her.

I have been away this weekend, but I follow Diana. This is a personal thing she just needs to do for herself. If you have followed her all along, you know this by now. I hope she makes it this time. She's nearly halfway which is really promising. GO GO GO Diana!!

She reflects on her attempts. Very moving piece, and possibly illuminating to some who struggle to understand why she does it.

Wow, utmost respect for this lady.
I was amazed several months back when I swam my first mile, only mentioning this because we are the same age................and that's where the similarity ends.
I just came across the following:
"The world still needs people such as Diana Nyad, people who demonstrate the strength of will by taking the impossible and making it possible. Nyad's straits of Florida are a metaphorical stand-in for any number of challenges that people believe they'll never overcome. Her refusal to quit inspires others to press forward. In an era where few mountain summits remained unclimbed, we still need impossible pursuits to reaffirm the indomitability of the human spirit."
