    First Bike Ride

23 years ago today, Thom and I went for our first bike ride together. I don't know how far we went. I know we didn't wear helmets. We rode ten speeds, Thom's had stem mounted shifters. I had down tube shifters.

Biking wasn't a passion then for either of us. It just seemed like a good thing to do on a sunny weekend day. The reason I remember it - he told me he loved me.

    awwwwwwwwwwwww............that is awful sweet!

Edit to add: last year on the Sierra Century, I rode for a while with a nice gentleman from Concord that said to me "If my wife loved to ride as much as you do, I'd fall in love with her all over again." He then proceeded to explain the difficulty in sharing something you love (cycling) with someone you love...but the someone doesn't love the activity. I felt bad for him and for his wife...him for wanting so desperately to share it with her and her for not having the passion for the activity. Maybe someday she will. Heck, I finally decided I needed to learn how to fly fish after 8 years of marriage to Mr. Summer Run Steelhead!

So be thankful you both love the sport and each other as much as you do!

V, that story brought a smile to my lips and a flutter to my heart. May you two have many many years together on your bikes.

What a nice memory. It brought a smile to my face also & reminded me that while my husband and I were dating I bought him a Brown Continental for his birthday or Christmas (cannot remember) so we could ride together. Like you and Tom cycling wasn't a passion for us then, but sure became one.

Thank you for sharing and reminding of my own memory.

That's beautiful V! You could never forget a memory like that! And to share this fantastic sport with someone you love.

I'm lucky in that my DH is the same, he introduced the sport to me, and I think he thinks he's pretty lucky because none of his cycling friends have partners that share in the joys of cycling. Cycling has really made us closer, and happier together.

Thats a wonderful story. It reminds me of my first organized ride back in Nov last year. I say an elderly couple getting their bikes off the car rack at the start and the gent leaning over and planting a big kiss on her cheek. I saw them later in the ride, still riding together and chatting it was really nice to see.
