Mountain Biking This Weekend??

I felt lousy about not joining you, but I was down for the count both Saturday and Sunday, spent both days on the couch in the dark unable to even keep water in my stomach. Really wish I could have been out in the woods. Other than your incident, the ride was good? Would you say the trails there are comparable to Rosaryville or Cedarville? Harder...?

I was wondering how you were doing. Hope you're back among the living now.

There are three or four loops that interconnect. Parts of it are in the woods, on a very narrow single track. Other parts are through a meadow, in the hot sun. Some of it reminded me of Rosaryville, but not as hilly. Kathy and I didn't think it was really a beginner trail, but it wasn't technical either. There were just a couple of logs and a stream to cross. I think what made it hard was the narrowness of the trail, and not really knowing what to expect or where we were. We didn't see a map until near the end.

The prison was creepy. The place we started is not the part they've fixed up into an artist community. That part is on the other side of the woods. The trail head is by the guard tower and it was just, well, creepy. It didn't help that there was no one else around when we started. We only saw a few people while we were riding.

It was fun, and easy to get to. I'd do it again, but more cautiously this time.

Looks like there are actually eight loops. Should have looked at the map before we went riding.

Ah, the prison is exactly the part I'd like to see. Would definitely bring my camera for that. And would definitely ride cautiously, I'm too used to having 7Rider lead us along trails Thanks for the map, that is indeed handy.

LOL, I knew you'd love seeing the prison ... you seem to like things that are on the edgier side. :-)

Sorry I missed the adventure - and missed the chance to see pix from KD of the prison...feel better! Where is Laurel Hill, anyway? I presume this prison is no longer open??

Did a bit of off road adventuring with DH and my sister in CT on my commuter. That was a trick...especially on the section of trail where the water came up to the bottom bracket!

Laurel Hill was recommended to us by Cataboo. It's really a lot of fun to ride around and seems to have a nice variety of trails. It's in Lorton, VA right on the old prison grounds. The prison is no longer in operation (thank goodness). It was very creepy standing outside the guard tower and front gate of 'The Big House.'

So the water was up to your bottom bracket, eh? Yikes! Be sure to lube.
