I would not tolerate being stuffed into a can like tuna fish. I would find other transportation or move elsewhere where this behavior is not encouraged or tolerated.
And people complain about the USA, sheesh (shaking her head).

They either need more trains or more cars on those trains. That is rediculous!

It's like that in NYC - there's no one with gloves stuffing you in, but people barrel into the cars like that during rush hour![]()

I agree. Not to mention how unsafe this is if the train runs into something (everybody would be crushed) or if there's an emergency and people have to get out quickly--just impossible here. Hopefully they don't have train operators who are texting at work (like the Green Line incident in Boston)...

Maybe only the people on the edges would be smashed. Everyone else would just push into layers of other soft humans.
Each day is a gift, that's why it is called the present.
I remember seeing a video (or maybe pictures) of that nature when I was a teenager, maybe 20 years ago. I think that if the Japanese had the technical capacity to add trains (which already run every 2 minutes), they would have added them a long time ago, as the system is very well used. Apparently it's actually getting a bit better because... the birth rate is lower.
I don't think there are very easy solutions for the individuals involved. Living in North America, it's easy to take our extremely low population density for granted, but that's not how the majority of the world lives!
