When you coast, the cassette isn't doing anything and hence it can't make noise. Any noise would be coming from the freehub body - which is part of the hub.

SRAM does offer some hubs, but I think not too many manufacturers choose to use them. Thus, the freehub whirring needs to be blamed on some other brand.
