    Saddle question from a newbie

    To disable ads, please log-in.

There is so much saddle information out there that I am having a hard time getting caught up to speed on all of the different brands and models. Could anyone suggest where to start in looking for a saddle?

This is for a road bike that will be for commuting to/from work at the outset, sitting in a not-very-aggressive position.

I am not sure that I am measuring accurately, but I am pretty sure that my sit bones are spaced wider than average, like around 145 mm, or thereabouts, maybe? Is that big? I have a smallish frame, but I did birth a giant baby (11.5 lbs!) without too much trouble, so I suspect I have roomy bones down there. (Not TMI, I hope?)

What's a good saddle to try? I'm not looking for super fancy at this point, just something serviceable that will fit until I figure out what I like.

    Thanks!
    Gillian

Good morning, I sent you a private message regarding my enjoyment of my Brooks B17 S saddle. Would need rain cover if you plan on parking in the rain. I know there are a lot of folks who have better saddle knowledge than I.

    How's the bike?

Is the 145mm the outside of the bones, or the center?

I've got 150mm center, 180mm outside; and I have Brooks B67 and B68 saddles on all my bikes.

If you decide you want to sit on a Brooks you can go to CleverCycles on Hawthorne and they have ones mounted on a wooden swivel chair. They had one on one of their Brompton folding bikes that I test rode around the neighborhood, so I had some idea it would fit before actually buying one.
