I've been on a beans and rice kick. James and I are trying to spend less on food and beans and rice are cheap, nutritious and plentiful.

Today it's lima beans slow cooked with smoked ham shanks, onions, bell peppers and celery served with rice. Oh man, I can't wait!

Yum to the Indian Food. Have you ever been to Monsoon over in Acton? I love that place!

I started today with a mini bowl of corn flakes. Mmmm commodity corn.

Yea, the food at Monsoon is good and it's only about 3.5 miles from my house. But, we call them the "snobby" Indian restaurant... the service is kind of arrogant, so we usually get take out. Their other restaurant in Maynard is not like that.
This place was in Lexington and it was *really* good. I'll be going back.

Yes they are very reserved at Monsoon. I also highly recommend India Palace just over the border from Westford in Chelmsford. Really fantastic food!

There's a great Thai place in Maynard that my uncle often takes me. Mmm Thai.

I had some lima beans for a pre-bbq lunch so I don't quite gorge on the unhealthy stuff. James works at a really fantastic posh restaurant and they are having their own bbq for their staff and staff families today. Yumm-OH.

I've been to all of those places, Reesha. We used to eat at Thai Chili * a lot* when I lived in Boxborough, now not so much. That, and the fact that Asian food puts pounds on me quicker than anything.

    Yesterday (baaad Catherine)

B: egg white sammy (Ezekial bread)

1.5 hour mountain bike drills (parking lot) and just playing around on the grass

L: (actually coffee hour after church) 5 small meatballs, slice french bread, pickles, mashed potatoes, coffee

S: fresh choc-chip cookies I made to take to a cook-out last night. Gotta sample while making them to assure they are edible

D: Brats. 2 of them. With bread. several types of salad, more cookies, berries, 2 beers

    -----------------------------------

    Today (better):

B: egg white + 1 whole egg sammy (Ezekial bread)

42 mile bike ride (2 Nutter Butters at SAG, 1 banana, had Heed in Camelbak for ride) Small amount of bran cereal when I walked in the door with a little skim milk. Don't ask me why I crave cereal after a long ride... would rather have chips and choc milk but am out of both...

L: Salad with roasted chicken breast, tomatoes, olive oil dressing

45 minute walk, 1 serving of ice cream afterwards

    D: Planning a chicken/veggie wrap with a beer

I know you're on a fairly restrictive diet, but I find a small amount (1 ice cream-shop scoop or less) of full-fat premium ice cream satisfies far better than a larger amount of other stuff. *sticks face back into her dish of Graeter's*
    Unless it's gelato, of course.
I decided to follow your advice I did damage with the cookies yesterday, and much to my surprise this afternoon I was satisfied with the ice cream after I carefully measured out a serving. Just to be safe all I purchased was a pint of Ben & Jerry's to see if I can be trusted with ice cream in my freezer...

Sun chips, Bolthouse protein thing, cabbage slaw

Oh that won't be necessary, there won't be any left should I discover I can't be trusted around it I DID NOT, however, get my favorite. I love good mint-chocolate chip but of course they don't have that in Ben and Jerry's pints. So I forced myself to get the raspberry cheesecake with white chocolate and swirls. Hard job, but someone has to do it.

No ice cream unless ride > 35 miles. It will be interesting to see what happens to my weekly mileage total with this approach

Maybe I should try that as a way to limit my ice cream addiction. Or not......

I'll be interested to see what additional tests reveal about my thryoid. Perhaps I've gotten away with eating ice cream like I do because it's been overactive for some portion of the last year (since I last had it checked). It seems odd though because I don't have most of the symptoms one generally associates with it. Here's hoping that it's nothing, although I think that might overly optimistic of me, given that I have a sister with Grave's disease. Maybe they just caught it really early.
