I don't know anything about at this time about hiking in summer because I've biked certain routes in the summer and fall --between Banff and Lake Louise and around those areas. This was over 12 years ago. I have biked the Great Divide from Field Alberta through Lake Louise to Banff.

But probably will get reaquainted now that I live in Calgary. But admittedly in summer, I get real impatient hiking in those beautiful areas, I prefer to be on bike to see more, though I realize there are many areas hiking is the only option.

For Banff, this is the federal govn't site. Banff is a federal national park of which the town of BAnff sits within the park.

http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/ban...iv/activ2.aspx I would start here first...before all the other distracting (some good) info. on the Internet.

I have only done snowshoeing (highlighted certain views in Cyclewrite blog), x-country skiing and hiking in winter in bits and pieces around Banff and in the Kanaskasis area.
