Sub 24 O

At this point in my life, getting away for an extended bike tour isn't realistic. Hopefully it will be soon but for now we do quite a bit of what we refer to as S24O and S48O rides - Sub twenty four hour overnights and Sub forty eight hour overnights. I like them because you don't need to fuss with a ton of gear and you have a great adventure only a few hours from home. This last weekend we rode about 84 miles all together with one night of camping. Anyone else enjoy that type of "touring"

My BF refers to our weekends as S240s, I've never bothered to ask him way, LOL.

We leave Friday after work, and come back Saturday morning, these trips are a blast, I highly recommend the concept to anyone.

I like your hanging hammocks - is it hard to find 2 trees to set them up? We use Tarptent gear, and I have a cool backpacking cot.

Like your tent and cot. We have been using hammocks for four years. Yes, sometime trees are a challenge, then they become bivey sacks. So far I have always been in a tree and I find sleeping in a hammock really comfy, but the bike hermit has tied his to sage brush in texas as well as a few fence posts. We have discussed investing in a small tent. Our backpacking tent is great but larger than we'd need for biking. One of our near future rides will be between Walla Walla & Pullman, have you ridden over there.

I *love* doing short, overnight tours! Have only done 3, but have loved every minute of them. Although I kinda figured out that I wouldn't need much more for a cross-country tour than a one or two night mini-tour. The only extra things I'd need would be the extra food.
I don't know if I could ever actually pull of a two month tour. Pulling all that gear could get mighty heavy after awhile.

never have. The Ann Wetheral (sp?) ride is next weekend in Walla Walla, I might do that.
We should ride toward each other and camp out, then ride home again!

I'm trying to talk some friends into the same type of ride. Just an overnighter. They aren't too thrilled about the camping - even if I haul the gear. They would rather stay in a hotel/motel. That works for me too, although I would rather camp.
