How I got started was I was an assistent manager at a shoe store in Santa Monica Place In Santa monica Calif.

This group came in and built the worlds tallest indoor sand sculpture right before I started working there.
About a month after I started working there the same group came back to change it for christmas. Well I kinda started flirting with one of the sculptor's.
See the sculpture was right in front of my store.
And then I volunteered on my day off to do sand windows. That is always the first thing new people get put on. Sounds easy but it's not.

I helped for about 6 hours, loved it! Liked getting dirty ha!
Well back then (1987) I didn't have a car so I rode the bus to work. Well I volunteered till 10:00 at night so one of the guys (the one I had been flirting with for three weeks) offered to give me a ride home.
We were total smart as*'s to eachother all the way to my apt, then when I went to get out of the truck he grabed my hand and kissed me. Then we made out till three in the morning. Next day he broke up with he's girlfriend and he has never left my side. So it's he's fault I am in sand sculpting.
He is amazing at it ( sculpting that is). My first paid job was about 9 months later in Nagoya Japan. What a thrill that was.
I had wanted to do something in art all my life growing up. Loved to draw and paint. But about 3 months before I was to graduate high school my parents ended up in a nasty breakup. So I moved out as soon as I graduated HS and got a full time job. Selling shoes. I wanted to go to collage but my parents tied up all the money. Plus I couldn't stand being around either of them. they liked to play us kids against either parent.
So here I am 19 years later. And it has been good to us. We have our own house with a view of the ocean. We get three months off every year in the winter. And I travel all over (kinda sick of that part) (hate airports with a passion). My husband is 14 time world Champion. I am not into the comp part. But I did compete in the solo at the world championships. I was up against 35 guys. Only one other women was in solo's we both placed I got 4th she got 5th. It is hard cause we can't shovel as much sand as the guys. But we were proud of ourselves. Ok are you sorry you asked me now?
