The longest trip I'd ever biked was 9 hrs; it was a rental bike, one gear with coastal brake. I was tired by the end but I wasn't burnt out; with a few short stop-overs, it was enjoyable riding. That is the extend of my riding experience. That said, I am healthy and athletically built. I don't know how long and fast I would ride with full panniers, does 100km a day sound unreasonable?
Why not try some rides that are somewhere between than 9 hours and 2 months before you set out on your tour?

After a few days you could probably answer most of your own questions about equipment and distances.
Each day is a gift, that's why it is called the present.

No advice to give, but just wanted to wish you the best of luck on your trip!!
I agree, tho, that doing at least an overnight trip with what you plan to take would be VERY wise. I whittled down what was in my panniers after one overnighter- and took out a whole bunch of things that I was certain I'd not need.

OMG, life got so busy and I totally forgot about this thread I posted. Thank you all for replying. I need to reread it again soon. For now, a quick response.

Muirenn, thanks for the link. I read it and I'll try to keep my gear between 1/4 to 1/3 of my weight. I'm still mapping out the route. Hopefully, by this weekend I can start weighing out my gear.

Tri Girl, thank you for your kind words. Once I get it packed, I'll take it out for a dry run.

    Good night!

I don't think I saw an answer to your shorts question--yes, you will definitely want more than 1 pair. I'd say 2-3, to be safe. You definitely don't want to wear them twice without washing--I've seen a few tales of woe from gals who have done this. Also, they are meant to be worn sans-underwear. Most of us really find it more comfortable to use chamois butter of some sort, as well. My favorite is an all-natural product called "That Butt Stuff." I tried it because the name made me laugh, but it's really a great product. I will also use Brave Soldier Friction zone for my longest rides on any trouble spots or spots I suspect could become trouble spots.

Good luck! What a cool adventure!
