BTWD is like a wedding day for me. Loads of planning. Loads of prep. And it's over in a flash.
Had 2 events to hit today. The "official" WABA one which I jus attended for the t-shirt and food (restocked my desk drawer with granola bars), and to find out that the Discovery Channel didn't do any of there promised prep work for our inter-office challenge. Disco's world HQ is our corporate neighbor and we are the two largest employers in the downtown area. So we've been trying to get a "commuter challenge" thing going for BTWD with limited success on both our parts. They were going to track #s of employees who showed up at the WABA stop. Highest percentage of bike commuters wins bragging rights. But Disco's efforts never got of the ground. I guess that means we won by forfeit.
After the WABA stop, we had our work event, with coffees, bagels, giveaways, and raffle items. I felt like the bride, going from group of people to group, chatting momentarily, making sure everyone was fed and content, and then moving on to the next group!
Saw lots of new faces. Lots of folks knew me by name and I had no idea who they were! A friend says after doing this for 3 years, I'm "famous" among the biking crowd at the campus. I just wish I were better at remembering names! Maybe next year, we should get those "Hello my name is" tags and put their name and agency on it.
We had a record turnout - over 60 at our coffee event! Only 3 non-riders wandered in. And at least one IS a rider, just couldn't for the day.
