Depends on the device, whether you can multitask or not. Works fine on Android 2.2.
I use it for short hikes and if I forget my GPS on short runs. The accuracy is pretty impressive.

I have it, it has been a battery hog and where I ride I often can't get a signal. There has always been a free version.
I kept reading that it would kill my battery but so far my phone seems fine and I'm usually out for 2-4 hours depending?
If you normally leave your phone's GPS on, and don't leave the display on when you're using imapmy, battery drain shouldn't be that great compared to normal use. If you normally leave your GPS off, and/or if you're using the screen for navigation so that the display is always on, that's when you'll notice it.
Also, any time signal is weak, you'll be using more battery, because the phone will be sending more frequent and stronger standby blasts trying to locate a tower. Out in the hills, under tree cover, the kind of places we like to ride and run, even if you had GPS off and weren't using the app, you'd notice shorter battery life. Apples to apples ...

It's supposed to be better with updated software and on the newer iphones. I used it recently when I forgot my garmin forerunner and it worked for 3 hours (previous phone was run dead on a short ride). I do use the website to find local rides. I need to ditch Garmin Connect (MotionBased used to be great, now just so-so).
At least one roadie I know now uses it as his primary. I forget to reach in my pocket and hit stop, though.

I found another cool feature to toy with, when you get home and view your map there is an option to do a "fly-over." I got to do my ride all over again in a few minutes from the comfort of my desk. What a hoot. This tickles me.
