How was the Tour de Palm Springs??

Hey Pinky! So glad you posted...

very cool that the DH took care of the bike for you and put bows on it!!! What a guy!!! Were they able to replace that shifter cover? Any other damage? It didn't appear so...

Just so you all know... Pink's DH was not only off the bike for 6 months... but was only back ON the bike for a couple weeks... did a TON of riding for those 2 weeks to be ready to ride 55 miles! I told him he's in for it now... we know he can do 55... He said he was slower than us... LOL.. yeah, FOR NOW! That's gonna change sooooooon... we have plans for him... bwahahahhahaha!

Tracy... we will definitely have to plan a ride sometime soon... and btw, are there any bike shops near you? I met PurePink and her DH at my LBS... it's been absolutely wonderful for ME too... so much more fun to have friends to ride with than trying to train solo... if you have a shop where you get all your stuff let them know you're looking for other females to ride with!

Thanks BikerChick68! I have been looking for local shops that maybe have local rides starting from them but it never occurred to me to actually mention it to the guys at the shops! Duhhhh..!

they took the full arm cast off today and put a short one on for another two weeks, then I'm done. My wrist was pretty much immoble (very little range of motion - now its casted back up again!) so I don't know how well I'll be able to ride once the cast is off. I have to have some PT to get range of motion back. I did ask if I could ride the 22 mile route of the tour de borrego (4 days after the cast comes off) on my Mtn bike (to reduce pressure on the arm) and he said I could - so now I'll hope for the best!

Don't worry BC68, I will DEFINATELY take you up on a bike ride, that's now one of my goals!

tprevost - glad to hear your arm is making progress and "thank you" for your kind words on the other thread re: my DH's injury. We sure wanted to do the Tour de Palm Springs ride. Anyway, us girls need to plan something - either to meet at one of the charity rides, or plan a ride of our own.

You are ON! How is your DH feeling? I've decided never to break a bone again! The rehab is something that never occured to me; I just figured they take the cast off, you rebuild your atrophied muscles but otherwise, off you go! WRONG!!! What does the Doc say about your DH's recovery time?

I'm pretty clueless about LA; how far are you from... say, Corona or Riverside? I know bcipam is in Irvine... bikerchick is down in San Diego and Caligurl is out in the desert ... sorry, I'm sort of 'talking to myself', trying to think of any middleground. I would definately be up for a ride in 3-4 weeks ; albeit a very gentle one!

Hi tprevost - My Hubby is doing Okay considering . . ., probably at least 6 to 8 weeks before he can ride, but he really can't wait to get back on the bike.
Re: us SoCal girls getting together, Orange County sounds good. It's probably equidistant for many of us. I live in Westwood (near UCLA), but I don't mind driving anywhere, even San Diego. Sounds like there's great riding down there. I know there are probably some good rides around L.A., but there is so much traffic, etc., and some areas are really not that safe. I'd love to hear others' suggestions.

I'm in too... If we want to ride here in San Diego I can plan routes... but I am willing to drive and meet elsewhere too! Just don't know routes elsewhere... perhaps an easy cruise and then lunch or something? We can plan it for maybe late March or April so Tracy has time to heal and work thru the atrophy...

Tracy... I went thru the whole atrophy thing too... broke my foot during my first dance competition... doc said I'd have atrophy... cool, whatever... NOT! I had no clue that meant I'd STILL be on crutches for weeks after the cast came off... sheesh...

Nina...ugh.... I bet he is totally going nuts! When you're used to being active and then can't be, it's a big, big drag! Especially as you really begin to heal and think you "should" be able to do stuff... but the doc disagrees! glad to hear he's doing OK tho... continued positive thoughts for his speedy and complete recovery...

Hi BikerChick - believe it or not, my hubby IS the doctor!! (He's an internist and has an orthopod overseeing his injury - reivewed the MRI's, etc.) He is also not a "youngster" anymore. He is actually 70 years old!!, but looks 50ish and is very youthful acting and a fast rider. I know the atrophy thing with a cast is really a bummer. The orthopod who treated my other riding partner for her fractured fibula (happened on Thanksgiving) suggested she NOT wear a cast if she could stand the pain, just so she wouldn't have to deal with the rehab issues. Sure enough, she had plenty of pain but no atrophy. She hasn't ridden yet because she is kind of freaked out (her second serious accident in 6 months).

Re: planning a ride, San Diego or anywhere else around there sounds fine to me. Actually, the Mardi Gras Ventura ride Caligirl was talking about also sounds fun. I'm just not sure I can go because it is kind of short notice.
