I just have to say that I love reading posts from people who are riding their first 20-miler, doing their first group ride, etc.. I remember all my firsts and how exciting they were as well as the great sense of accomplishment that came as a result. For new cyclists, I really recommend Selene Yeager's book, A Woman's Guide to Cycling. I learned so much by reading it and was able to avoid a lot of newbie mistakes because of it.
    She's going the distance...

To be fair - I read that book and loved it. I'm still pretty sure I made a bunch of newbie mistakes on my first group ride.

@ buffybike & Savra, I just looked the book up online at my local library's website and it's actually called: Every Woman's Guide to Cycling...". There is a book called "A woman's guide to cycling" by Susan Weaver. I put the one by Selene Yeager as a request and it's due on Monday, so I should get it Tuesday and will have a happy read!
One LBS in Portland started their Beginner Bike Group Rides last Sunday. They're every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and they are for beginner cyclists or folks who want to learn how to ride in a group. They're out of Portland, so it's definitely urban riding, though they go on "bike friendly" streets and trails. I may go tomorrow!
    Whoo hoo.

I have another question and I will post as another thread. You all have been super helpful! You all ROCK!
