Grrrrr, can you believe I came off my bike less than a foot away from where I came off last year and broke my back!
Fortunately only a few bruises, bumps and cuts but it sure shook me up and ironically, I was going off for a ride and then going to the dentist to have a tooth extracted.
I had just pushed my bike through a gate, after riding along some heathland, got back on and as I was about to push away, these cheapie cycling shorts I bought that are slightly too big, the big nappy bit caught on my saddle, which meant I had to quickly move myself forward again in order to unhitch from the saddle, then my right foot slipped on the pedal. This all meant that I had not actually started moving, therefore there was no momentum to get me up the slight slope so in a second, I realised I was going to fall.
It was the most awful feeling, amazing in only a second how you can have flash backs of a previous accident and I remember looking down on the road to my left and screaming out "No, no"................ I managed to fall in a very odd fashion but did not hurt myself too much. The chain ring gouged my right calf, the frame bruised my upper leg and my left shin managed to take the impact of the left pedal.
Generally I am not a wimpy person but this sure did shake me up, yes and I shed a few tears.
It has taken me several months to get my confidence back, so this really did not help. Still, I did get back on my bike and ride home, shower then drive up to the dentist have my tooth removed, finally got home in a heap and crashed out on the bed.
Today is another day and it won't deter me riding.
PS The cycling shorts are in the bin!
