I agree....Midwest has always seemed kind of weird to me....and you are right North central is a more accurate description of our location...... IMO Michigan (and surrounding states) should be classified as "Great Lakes Region".

I was confused as to where MI would be classed when I first joined TE also.

I once had someone not from MI argue with me that MI is not part of the Midwest. I was all, "duh, I think I know where I live!" Any state in the Big 10 (11?) is most certainly part of the midwest, even if we are closer to East than we are to West. It's as much cultural as it is geographical!

I agree about the Great Lakes classification, though.

I didn't get it either about where we should be classified but agree with the "great lakes region" as a better indicator. I also agree that "midwest" is more about cultural similarities than geography.

When I joined TE in 2006 there was no Mid-Atlantic thread; we had to try to choose between South East and North East, with neither being truly suitable

I'll have to pull out a map to find Grand Haven. But I'm over on the east side of MI for a week. About 75 miles north of Saginaw. Anyone up for a road trip and a bike ride?

I did a century in the Midland (near Saginaw) area that advertises that it is the flattest century in Michigan. I kinda prefer hills and some curves though.

It's pretty flat here as well. And WINDY today! I don't think my bike will see the sunshine until tomorrow.
