You will be relatively close to a brick and mortar Sierra Trading Post too! Whenever we go to Lake Tahoe, we always drive over to STP in Reno to shop - good bargains and a large selection. If you could get away for a day or an afternoon to visit Lake Tahoe, it would be well worth it - very beautiful! Tokie

I second that! It's gorgeous and well worth the drive over. We were there 4 years ago and rented mountain bikes and rode the rim trail around the lake. It was awesome!

It looks awesome Bike Chick! My supervisor is attending the conference with me and we are going to be so busy that it is going to be difficult enough to get out of the conference hotel for one evening to do some walking/hiking Thankfully, unlike most conferences, this one is very focused on what I actually do and will be very useful. The fitness center opens at 5am

I've a fun bike event planned the weekend I return

I don't know about renting bikes in Reno, but Bicycle Bananas in north Reno is a great resource.

Here's a link for some road rides: http://www.pedalers.org/. Go to the "route slips" link. If you're into suffering, there's the ride up Geiger Grade to Virginia City or up the road to Mt. Rose.

There are a lot of mountain bike trails coming out of Rancho San Raphael park. You can also hike those trails.

We still have a TON of snow up in the mountains, so I don't think any of the Tahoe trails will be open. It's a crapshoot whether or not they'll be open in July .

I live in Reno and road and MTB. I can give you info on rides. Let me know what kind of riding and distance and I can make some suggestions.

Thanks for responding As it turns out, I probably won't have the time to really get away from the hotel for more than a few walks They are keeping us very busy, and my supervisor is also coming.

We will be at the Peppermill Resort Hotel - is that an area of town where I can go walking at night? I understand it is quite close to the Reno Airport...

I live in Reno and we are a huge biking community! Its too bad you won't have time to ride while here. If you have a free Tuesday night, you could mountain bike with my group of around 40 other riders. We have a different ride every Tuesday night on some killer trails around the city. As for the Peppermill, great casino, but not really close to downtown. If you would like some good recommendations for restaurants or things to do, let me know!
