    Have fun in Key West!
I remember when I was 18 (about a hundred years ago) riding a scooter around in the Bahamas, buying a woven palm leaf hat, eating pigeon peas and chicken- what fun!

DH and I are oddly getting swamped with patent drawing work right now- looks like maybe we won't get a chance to get away anywhere for fun- just an obligatory family trip in June we don't really want to do but have to. We'll try to make it as enjoyable as we can.

But I do have my big veg garden and my beehives to tend, and that can feel like a sanctuary right in my own little neighborhood back yard. When i'm digging the soil and sowing bok choy and cucumber seeds in the sun with my bees flying around me, I feel like i'm a thousand miles away from my desk.

BSG - your yard sounds heavenly.

My SO finally got word that her position at the U will be ending in the Fall due to budget cuts (ahh the joy of being non tenure track faculty). We've been anticipating this for a couple of years and we've been working things out financially so when it happens we'll be okay. We will be able to live on my salary and I can but her on my benefits.

I'm happy for her as she's been burned out in her field for some time, I hope she'll just take some down time and rest/refocus.

You are very smart to have prepared for that possibility. She'll have time to recoup her strength and then figure out a new and better path.

That's what I'm hoping for. She's VERY driven and has never had time to just sit and contemplate the future... I hope after a couple of weeks she'll be able to settle and breathe and rest.
