was PEM scan, then mammogram/ultrasound, now needle biopsy

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Got through the mammogram and ultrasound necessitated by the questionable areas in the PEM scan, and got through the 4 hours of needle biopsy today. I think my left breast will glow at night for a while, since it took them 15 x rays to place the needle properly, decide that maybe the calcifications were in the skin, remove the needle, do another set of mammograms to confirm that they were indeed in the breast tissue, reposition the needle. perform the biopsy, and another set of mammograms to confirm that they have indeed gotten the area of concern.

The only good thing is that for the time being is that I actually have a bustline on one side, nice even if it is only temporary.

Please keep those wheels spinning for good thoughts- 3-5 days and I will get the results.

I went through all that this year, too and a surgical biopsy. I cannot even begin to tell you how stressful it was for me and my family. I don't have, and have never had Cancer and when after 3 long months of testing I finally got a definative result I couldn't help but break down in tears of joy.

I have no advice other than try to stay positve, it worked for me. I will be sending you lots of good thoughts. Jones

    (((((((marni)))))))

Keeping the wheels spinning. Best of luck with the results. Rest and heal and don't let them minimize your pain - emotional or physical.

(I have to have a sports injury every few years so I can get a stash of pain pills from the ER, that I hold back to use against iatrogenic pain, when they cut up sensitive parts on purpose and tell you to go home and take ibuprofen. )

(((Marni))) that sounds so frustrating. I hope all the questions are answered without more tests, and the news is good.

Sheesh...gotta wonder if all those xrays are worth it. I'd be worried that even if I didn't have cancer now, all that radiation would give it to me later. It really seems that there should be a better way of diagnosing/biopsying in the 21st century.

I surely wish you good news with your results and am just sorry for all you've had to go through to date.

Sorry you had to go through all of that. Your results will be worth it though, one way or the other. But, that sure is some mashed taters there. Wow.

As for the better way... FYI: MRI breast biopsy. Maybe they just didn't have that where she went, though. No radiation with MRI. Or, maybe she has a medical reason why she can't go into the big magnet... When they have that much of an issue, MRI is the way to go if they can.
