We've got a design company working on a bicycling education campaign -- the idea being to promote good cycling and driving, especially but not exclusively on & near our university campus (The U is the primary funder.)
We advised the design company that our theme should not be fear-based, and should be based on ideas like "be predictable" "Be visible" ... "Go with the flow" (with traffic, not against it0, and other themes of cycling being fun and practical.
None of the design team knows from cycling. They've come up with some nice ideas -- "Full of air? That's a good thing!" with the picture of a bicycle tire. HOWEVER, f'rinstance, one of the ideas they tossed at us was "Be edgy! Ride your bike close to the edge of the road." Yes, they snatched that one out ... but some of us are thinking that this makes us want to be sure that hte campaign actively addresses that issue since so many people sincerely believe bikes belong hugging the precipice. (another line was "on your right!" which actually looked *good* with their poster of bike tire tracks and car tire tracks, but passing on the right inappropriately is an all-too-common dangerous practice in these parts, and you say "on your ___!" when you're passing or coming alongside.)
Any ideas out there? I just seem to remember seeing some assorted campaigns that had positive educational messages...

遙知馬力日久見人心 Over a long distance, you learn about the strength of your horse; over a long period of time, you get to know what’s in a person’s heart.
How about something along the lines of the "One Less Car" message?
Or something green -- save time, money, the environment...
If the traffic just got lighter, thank a cyclist.
If you found a parking space up front, thank a cyclist.
Or something like "Smart, strong, and (something relevant to your university)...love a cyclist."
Ride smart. Drive smart. Everybody wins.
Getting in touch with my inner try-athlete.
"Share the road" is something we want to move forward from (it's good, but used already)... finding a way to express "I'm out in your lane, say hello!" (or, as I read somewhere, "We're here, we're geared, get used to it!"...
Those could be fun with the right image: "be predictable but not too predictable" someone doing something a little surprising on a bike, juggling, wearing a grass skirt and coconut bra ... I dunno, have fun with it. You have a design team, they are supposed to be creative.
"Be visible" think beyond the neon green; striped socks, mismatched outfit, Hawaiian shirt flower lei and Dame Edna glasses .... and....
Go with the flow; 60's look, love beads, tie dyed jersey, peace sign .... riding with traffic![]()

Sue, I'd love to see these when you're done...we've kicked around the same idea in this college town.
I wish I had some cute ideas to offer...but I'm pretty frumpy. I agree that anything that reinforces the wrong idea that bikes belong in the gutter is just a little too "out there"; with a picture from a steering wheel, I'd say "get it right...stay left...and be in my sight"
For being predictable...something like "this when being straight is cool..."
