    Shifting problems

I am trying to decide if I should take my LHT to the shop for a little adjustment of the RD - but wanted to see what TE members with more experience might advise on this.

Had some problems shifting this weekend - and that has not happened for a long time. For example, Saturday - knowing that a quite steep hill was lying in wait for me as soon as I turned a corner - I went ahead and shifted to the small chain just before turning. This was not under load, and I had already shifted the cassette up far enough so that it wouldn't be either too easy nor cross-chained.

The problem was that the chain didn't move, and it should have. I didn't drop the chain, but it took a little time to persuade the chain to shift. I shifted up and down with the trigger and it finally shifted. It wasn't a matter of needing to trim, I KNOW what that sounds like... the chain just wouldn't drop down to the small ring.

Yesterday there were no repeats, but I found myself having a trim a LOT more frequently....I also noted my brakes need adjusting, but I will try that myself at home. These cantis seem to need adjusting quite frequently.

EDITED: After thinking about this some more, I've decided to just consider it a miss-shift and just not worry about it unless it happens again and seems to develop a pattern. Am not worried about the brakes because if I like the V-brakes on my Gunnar, I suspect that I will change the brakes on my LHT to the same thing.

It's not uncommon for cables to stretch and need minor adjustment every few months or so. It will only get worse. Your bike shop ought to tweak this for you at no charge - only takes a minute. Better, take them some cookies and ask them to show you how to do this yourself. It's pretty easy when you know how.

Yep, like everything else, cables honor the change of season with...well, with behaving like that.
Each day is a gift, that's why it is called the present.
