Thanks for the offer, Indi. You might regret that offer if you knew how slowly I run. I felt very gung ho about it Friday and now, after riding 2 days in a row, not so much!
I am going to run tomorrow, going to have to be at oh dark thirty. I don't think I can take the treadmill for even 2 miles, so I am planning to go outside for 3 miles. I will make my decision after that. My hip/psoas is still very stiff when I get up in the AM, but the stretches are keeping it well under control. Deep inside, I know the running makes this worse, but no one is telling me to stop.
The plan is to run tomorrow, short ride Wednesday, run Thursday, probably riding both weekend days. I don't seem to do well if I run more than 2 days a week, which I know is probably not enough.

I can't read that and not tell you to stop. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! No one hears it but you. Why are you doing something that's making it worse? What is this accomplishing physically that walking can't do for you, without the pain and injuries?

I finally feel like I can join these threads!

I'm the one that was really struggling to run 90 seconds back in October and asked for help. Since then I've read chirunning (and everything that i can get my hands on) have dramatically changed my form, and went from a super motion control shoe to a racing flat.

On Friday I ran my longest run yet- 4.25 miles! I went with my dog, Tuff, and ran around a private lake not too far from my house. The first half of the run was really slow and I thought I might not make it around, but by 2.5 miles or so I felt like I could've gone forever. It's pretty liberating.

This thursday is my first 5K race ever. I'm pretty excited.

    Congratulations, MCAP, that is remarkable!

Good luck with your 5K - should be a breeze!

Red, I don't even sweat when I walk. Even walking at 4 mph. Maybe when it's very hot out. And actually I sometimes can feel my hip hurting when I walk.
Maybe you are right. Running helps me keep my body in shape...
When I ride, even slowly, I always feel like I got a work out. The thing is, I love to walk and hike.

    Great MCAP!

Crankin, I don't know if you could imagine doing that but I used to use my walking sticks to take some weight off of my legs when running. I started out running like that (60 pounds heavier), I still do it sometimes. It takes some time to figure out how to use them correctly in the running motion but it makes a real difference if you get the hang on it.

Yesterday I ditched my "Making the cut" workout and went for a 5k run because it was so warm and nice outside I couldn't stop me from going out. It would have been warm enough for short sleeves and I was drenched in sweat in my winter clothes. You could even smell a little bit of last summer and imagine that it would be summer soon. (Sadly thats not true...)

I was too lazy to get all the winter gear on to run outside this morning; it's 30 out. I did 2.3 miles on the TM, including a little warm up, cool down, and 2 2 minute walk breaks. Last time I was on the TM, I could only do 2 or 3 2 minute run intervals.
I've decided against the Pat Tillman run, although I might do it as a walk (and I suspect i would run for part of it). I have 2 Saturdays I can't do any training before that date, as I am part of a bike workshop for my club and then I have a class the week after that.
Red, I thought more about what you said. The thing is, my hip hurts whenever... it's mostly just stiff in the morning and then gets better. The MacKenzie PT has really helped. I just need to make sure I continue doing the stretches. It's like having a personal trainer that my insurance pays for . I am notorious for not stretching.
Running will never be my #1 thing, and I mostly do it in the spring and fall. But, I still like to be able to go out for 2-4 miles when I feel like it.
