Guys & hand lotion

For certain, I notice more guys openly using hand lotion here where I am because the air is much drier and colder. Compared to ...Vancouver where it's milder and abit more moist.

Some keep a bottle of skin care lotion on top of their office desk.

I work in an engineering oriented division.

I keep it in my desk drawer, in my workout bag, on my nightstand, and on the bathroom vanity. Once, my chiropractor (a former Big 10 football player) was doing therapy on my back and said "dude, your back is dry! Use lotion!"

I don't think women have the market on dry skin cornered (now if we want to discuss scents - that might be a different story.....). I wish my DH would remember to use it more often.....

Ha, this is totally Derek! He is a The Body Shop body butter addict! Doesn't matter the fragrance, he loves them all, but I think he definitely prefers the fruity/sweet ones. He gets really bad eczema that flares up when the air is so dry from central heating (even with a console humidifier), so we go through lotion and body butters pretty fast this time of the year.

He's a mechanical Engineer...

Lol. My husband too. He's a Well driller! And on top of the fruity-lotions, he likes smelly candles too. My parents get him yankee candles every year for Christmas.

Ok..but I wonder if many of these guys, Mr.
Bloom, also engage in outdoor sports where they also might be more open to using it..for his own comfort level..cracking, bleeding skin is messy/irritating?

My dearie does not buy or I've never seen him use skin lotion at all. Part of it is that he is allergic to alot of cosmetic fragrances..including soap. He has 2-3 brands out of several hundred, he can only tolerate. He gets booming headaches around cosmetic fragrances, etc. It has nothing to do with a profound desire to remain manly and stubborn.

That said, he might have snuck in a couple of drops from my lotion bottles. No problem, not worth telling me. To me, it's a necessity for....ANYONE who needs it. Most of the stuff I use is strong moisturizing stuff that are relatively scent-free. For luxury, I do use some scented lotions...which dearie hates it on me.

Dearie has been a civil engineer, was a farmer, etc. He has naturally soft nice hands. He keeps his nails trim and clean...he's a naturally neat person.
I've had the 1-2 guys, suddenly put hand lotion on their face...while I'm sitting in their office, chatting..

I Have very dry skin but I can tell when I am getting dehydrated over a period of time, because it will start flaking in spite of all the Nivea lotion.

You raise a good point...I don't use it for the sack of using it, or with the intent of staying young (I'm already past prime) I use it because I need it. I'm not doing outdoor activities in the winter, but I still use it. Sounds to me like your SO doesn't need it...maybe he drinks plenty of water and I need to stop drinking diet coke.

Sounds like he and I have similar allergies to lotion and fragrance.

Well not skin lotion, but he doesn't use sunscreen.....at all. That worries me. For all the cycling he's done over the years. He hates chemical like feel of the stuff.

Do men not usually use hand lotion in the States? I'd say it's less common here among men than among women, but not uncommon, especially not among the outdoorsy ones. My dh certainly does, but he does wait until his hands are practically cracking open - then he slathers them with something immensely menthol-stinky Kind of like the way I use sunscreen...

Maybe the older and more oldfashioned guys consider it unmanly. I wouldn't know, to be honest.
