I've been spinning for years and personally, I don't wear my cycling shorts to spin classes. The classes I take are only 45 minutes, so I can endure without the need for a chamois. Plus I do other stuff at the gym on my spin days, and can't imagine working out in padded bike shorts...that would be WAY uncomfortable for me. Not to mention the weird looks I'd likely get. However, I DO use cycling shoes and would definitely recommend it. When I first started spinning, I was wearing my regular running shoes and would always get hot spots and numb feet due to the flexibility of the shoes. By switching over to a stiff-soled cycling shoe, I eliminated all those issues. I use MTB shoes with SPD cleats. For the road, I use road shoes with Ultegra cleats.

I have gone a couple of times now and love it! The bikes use Look Cleats so I didn't even need to wear my old road shoes with SPD, my Sidis work just fine. I mountain bike with Time pedals. I am still getting the hang of it but it is definitely a great workout. I do not know how DH can do interval training on the road, inside isn't as fun but it is a much more controlled workout. I never thought I would be a gym rat but I rather like it!

I like spinning for intervals too! If the instructor sucks, I'll sit in back & do interval workouts. When I teach, I have a guy who does intervals because he's a track racer. So, he isn't always spinning along with us - but he sits in back & isn't distracting.
To train a dog, you must be more interesting than dirt.

Sadly I dislike both of our female instructors. Their routines have no relationship to the music they play - their classes are chaotic and one of them does nothing other than sprints. I wish I COULD ignore everything and just do my own thing but I can't - so I don't go to their classes.

One of them, however, is an excellent Pilates instructor - her personality is totally different between the two classes - it is quite interesting to watch.

I went to a class Monday (6 am) and wasn't crazy about the instruction. She used perceived effort, I prefer cadence. She wasn't overly energetic which might have been okay if it weren't intended to be my morning pick me up! Plus her workout didn't seem to closely mirror the music like the guy I had been attending classes with. I did try a different instructor (my third) last night and I really clicked with her. Still like the Thursday night guy the best. Been to three of his classes and I can see why they are always full. But I am definitely enjoying spin and finding workouts to challenge me. I have one of my teammates who comes on Thursdays. It is nice to have a buddy!
