I did twenty wonderful miles, with some sun and temp around 36 degrees. It felt so, so good.

Clock, your photos are lovely. Emily, I read about the "heat wave" in the South and was quite nostalgic and envious.

For those of you who are riding in the freezing weather, please don't hate me & let me preface the next statement by saying that it's going to be friggin' cold here this next week. But...this weekend was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Yesterday we rode some crazy hills. It was 80 degrees w/15-25 mph winds. Today, we just rode some base miles. Temperature...72 w/5-10 mph winds. AWESOME! Both days sunny. Now...next week...there's supposed to be 3 days of seriously cold weather. Lows close to the single digits. Who would have thought? Oh well...at least the weekend was good.

Did my big weekly ride yesterday, in 50°F and steady rain -- 65 miles with 4,000 feet of climbing. Rode my commuter bike in a group that was a lot faster than me. Not overly fun, but a good workout.

Today it was sunny and in the mid-40s; agreed to do an "easy" 1-hour ride with my dad. ...And by "easy," apparently he was thinking "ride up the steepest side of the big hill nearby*." Today's ride ended up being just over 18 miles with 1800 feet of climbing. But it was dry and the sun peeked out occasionally, and I got to ride the fast bike, so it was great! And overall I'm loving no sub-freezing weather and no snow.

I got out this afternoon with a friend and did 33.5 miles. It was about 42 degrees and the sun was shining so it felt great. I was covered from head to toe in mud because the snow was melting the roads were wet. My bike and I were filthy and I had grit in my teeth but it was a great ride and it felt wonderful to be outside.

Why am I not surprised, P??
I threw out my back recently and have been in absolute agony all weekend. Today, dosed heavily on ibuprofen and pre-loaded from a ebsom salt bath, DH & I went to the D.C. Car show to look at new cars. About as anti- bike as you can get but we did get plenty of walking in.
Now, I've got the TENS on my back and will spend the rest of the evening on the couch.

Sorry to hear about your back, 7. Rest up and take care. Spring will be here before you know it and we need to get our mountain bikes out again for a ride.

I just realized after reading pfunk's post that possibly the best thing about today's ride is that I didn't have to clean my bike as I did after my previous two 2011 rides -- one was in a light rain, and the other was when the roads were all salted/sanded up and still wet. I love not having to clean my bike after a ride...cleaning myself is enough effort!

I got my first road ride in quite a while, 14ish miles with the club's social ride including a couple stiff climbs. A bit colder than it was supposed to be at 45, but great to be out and great to ride with others. Yesterday was a 6 mile hike in short sleeves, gorgeous & near 60, wowza...but tomorrow winter's coming back, and Tuesday they're predicting a high of zero. Colorado in January.

    heat

Oohhhh dear, fri sat & sunday were crazy crazy hot & humid here in Perth. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDW60...01.94609.shtml The tropical cyclone was thankfully downgraded to a tropical depression then just zilch. It "rained" a bit but the ground's so dry that you can't tell anything happened.

Friday morning, I set out at 530am on a short ride. The ride became a bit shorter though when i left the city for my jaunt home. I think by about 830am it was 35C & horribly humid. I barely had enough water & wished i'd filled my other water bottle so i could pour it over me. Even then it wouldn't have helped. When i got home n tried to take my jersey off, it was stuck to me w the sweat.

Saturday, group ride & thankfully we went near the coast.

Sunday, i joined a group of folks on a dirt ride & oh boy was it a struggle. With this ex tropical depression/cyclone thing that was supposed to hit us, no one knew exactly what the weather would be like. It turned out to be a freakin hot & humiday day. Our ride was not near much shade and often uphill. I drank 3l of water & that still wasn't enough. The last 10km were a horrible slog. About 5km from the end, it came to the point where i just couldn't wear a helmet anymore. I felt guilty taking it off but even with the good venting system, i was struggling. Good thing the last section of our ride is on a very very flat area...

The humidty drove me nuts over the weekend our evap air con does diddly squat when it's humid..

It hit 52 degrees Saturday and DH and I got the bikes out of the trainers and hit the road for the first outdoor ride of 2011. We only rode 18 miles but it felt great and was such a bonus in January. Now another winter storm is on it's way.........ICK!

Like EmilyinNC I enjoyed the beautiful weekend we had here. Went for a 33 mile ride on Sat. and even with 10 - 15 mph headwinds on the way back, it felt so good to be riding in comfortable temperatures. It takes so much more energy for me to ride in cold. Sunday was even nicer, and I went on a 4.5 mile hike with my son around Falls Lake. Now, 39 degrees and cloudy. Back to reality! But those 60 degree days in Jan. make up for all the crappy weather days!

Although it seemed like a great day for a ride (barely any wind and sun shinning) the roads have many slick areas and huge puddles from snow melting. Needless to say, a major pothole can be under that puddle. So I opted for a 4 mile brisk walk which was also a bit crazy in some areas. We are running out of room to put the snow here on Long Island.

Jo, one of my friends from college lived on Long Island. (She's currently in Wisconsin). She went back home briefly because of some family issue, and posted a picture of a church sign on FB. It said "Whoever is praying for snow: Please stop."

Today is clear and sunny, but 16 degrees. I might bundle up and go for a walk, because I need to go to the grocery store anyway.
At least I don't leave slime trails.
