Actually due to the type of work I do (merchandising, so I can put miles on the car) I really will need to get a new car in the next could of years, and really need a station wagon or hatch back and one with good miles per gallon.

Congrats on starting the search - with the market the way it is, you should have the luxury of time (i.e., things won't sell from under you) and you can be more selective.

On the car - I just got a diesel VW Jetta Sportwagen. I'm seeing 40 mpg in mixed driving, and couldn't be happier!

For the most part I agree. Although we had seen a forclosure we'd have liked to have seen, but it did sell fairly quickly. I know why though, it was priced at $164,900 in a community where that size house (large 2-story) sells at a minimum of around $230,000 even in this economy.

I'll add that car to my list to check out.
