    This is so wrong!

I have always hated beauty contests for children and never understood a mother's need to do this to their daughters. It's just wrong in so many ways. This is a video clip from the show Toddlers and Tiaras showing a mother having her 5 year old daughter's eyebrows waxed. Come on people! What the heck is wrong with you! Am I overreacting to this or do others find this abusive?

I'm with you!!!!!! Talk about a little girl with no childhood. I can't stand those pageants. I have seen little girls walking in high heels, really!!!!????!!!!! I can't believe they made a TV show out of it.

Isn't that the truth? So pathetic on the parent's part and so sad for the kids. Most of them don't even seem to enjoy it (and they look like plastic dolls on the stage). Ick!
Why don't we just keep perpetuating a sick/twisted version of beauty... those girls won't be messed up at all or anything...

They should require them to watch "Little Miss Sunshine" when they enter. Not that any of them would probably get it.

Ugh; every time I see a commercial for that show, I want to throw my tv out the nearest window. The parents are nuts, and the children are brats. Most of the families they profile aren't exactly loaded, and yet they spent thousands and thousdands of dollars on this cr*p. It makes me crazy.

Whew; I'm glad I got that off my chest!

I cannot understand this type of thing. I would love to find out how the kids feel about it years later.

I absoloutely loathe that show, it makes me want to slap all the mothers on it. They're turning those kids into horrible, shallow human beings.

I've always been against them. I don't think it's right to teach children to focus on their looks and to teach them that they have to please people. I watched part of a show once to see if maybe I'm missing something and judging those parents too harshly without really knowing anything about them or their lives. I couldn't watch the whole episode because it made me feel sick. It was worse than anything I had imagined. I was fuming at the parents and the child pageant industry and I was saddened that those children have to go through that. They are having so much taken away from them.

"I Was a Toddler Beauty Queen - A Memoir in Three Acts" by me. Not really. It's a book idea I just had in reading this thread.

Hmmm. Plot lines are swimming in my head.

Ugh...that show makes me want to hurl! I'm not a fan of pageants in general because they tend to encourage girls/women to focus on the wrong things, but at least in the case of teens/adult women they themselves are making the choice to compete in that environment and have the right to do so. With these little girls their parents are pushing them into it and it's just disgusting, not to mention the fact that at such a young age they are being taught to put an unhealthy emphasis on appearance.

now if they caught someone doing that to a dog or a cat, they would be tried for animal cruelty- Where is the DSS when they are really needed?
disgusting- reality shows have gone way way too far.

As for the mothers comment about holding her down and ripping them off. I know, let's take mom, wax her in the critical parts and the face and then hold her down and rip them off. Let her know what it feels like.

I've wondered the same thing. I see that video and the commercials promoting the show and think how screwed up those parents are and how much their kids are going to hate them when they grow up. Or even worse yet, they grow up to be just like them and raise another generation of miniature beauty queens.
