Oops! I really did mean REI but you're right that MEC is the Canadian equivalent. (I edited the post above.) They are totally unrelated businesses, though. Thanks for pointing that out!

A downside of washable Ibex and other brand merino sportswear....
    not ALL wool is washable!!
A certain someone put my brown wool turtleneck (for dress wear, not sports wear) in the washing machine. And it shrunk from a size Large to a size Small!!!

I tried it on after that debacle. I really can't wear it...

If you want it...it's yours. PM me and I'll send it to you (domestic US please).

did you get that at tjmaxx or marshalls? I think that's the brand of a turtle neck that I had bought last year at tjmaxx and the same thing happened - wore it once, it accidently went into the washer on cold and it was miniscule when it came out (it didn't go in the dryer)

Since it was only a week after I bought it or s, I took it back to them and told them that shouldn't have happened. They gave me my money back.

I think it came from a Marshalls in Connecticut, near my sister's.
Alas...if so, it was last year (don't wear it much), and receipt is long gone.

    And that's exactly what happened!

I did try one on, I can't remember what it was called, but it definitely had a hoody, and definitely did not fall nicely on me, especially the pockets, I had to return it. I wasn't particularly impressed with the feel of it, a bit too thin for my taste. I would have wanted it a bit more structured.

This being said, I am very small on top with solid hips and thighs, so maybe that didn't help.

I felt much better today, wearing thinner layers. Although, I was so cold when I first got in my car, I had to crank up the heat. I wore the Smart Wool base layer and a thinly lined Athleta quarter zip t-neck. I wore my Gore cycling jacket instead of my Golite. I didn't have to open the pit zips, though. The jacket is thinner than the Golite, but much shorter; some of my mid layers would be hanging out.
I spent some time perusing soft shells, recommended x country jackets on line before I left to ski today. It seemed confusing to me. Some people use soft shells as a mid layer and some use them for the outer layer? Some were on sale now, but I am not sure I want to order on line. For now, I will stick to the wool base layer, no matter how my skin feels and perhaps invest in some lighter weight mid layers. There's a new store in town that sells Ibex and I will probably head over there to buy the bra later in the week, since it will be impossible to find it on sale.

I shrank my favorite Dohm hat. I accidentally threw it into the warm water wash.

As the lucky recipient of 7rider's shrunken wool sweater, I just wanted to say again how kind it was of her to send it to me, and how much I love it! It's just my style -- wore it to work today. And in this cold winter, wool is more important than ever!

    Thank you again!!!

No, you didn't, but now my plans have changed, no snow shoeing today. But, I'm going skiing tomorrow, so it will get tested.

My new Smart Wool hat worked great the other night. I think it will be light enough not to cause the massive sweating while exercising. I didn't get a sweaty head when I had to snow shovel for 1.5 hours yesterday morning, either.
