But of COURSE it's always beautiful here in NM - but since I"m a desert rat, anything under 50 degrees is cold and during the shortest days of the month when the sun sets around 5:00 pm, it's too dark for me!......which means I start my hibernation around Thanksgiving and come out around Groundhogs Day!
Surly looking out at Snow, fog, rain bluck=CorsairMac not even bothering to get out of electric-mattress pad heated, heavyweight feather comforter over flannel sheets bed, it just ain't worth it!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Back to the more relevant topic to this forum (ahem, knitting ) . . .

Guess I'm going to making lotso copies. Corsair, I'll mail you a packet also.

In the meantime, does everyone know about Knitty? Fun articles, a great forum and free patterns.
    http://www.knitty.com/archive.html

Corsair, my very first (and only longsleeve) sweater was made from Noro because all first large projects should use cheap yarn.

Surly, if you liked the yarn in Karen's wristies and need to order. One skein did the trick. Instead of tonight being my S&M night, guess it's going to be S&T (shot and typing) night. My pattern is currently a bunch of pencil squiggles.

I never learned to knit though I always wanted to. My mother knitted but she never taught any of us. My parents always wanted us to be doing things like studying. :P

Is there any good resources out there on learning to knit?

Mel, I'd go buy a book or two because you'll want the pictures. You could be downloading and printing out directions forever and ever and ever if you try to do it from the 'net. You can find the info but you have to know what to look for and put it together piecemeal. At least, I would find it frustrating to do it that way.

Here are a few books I'd recommend:

Sally Melville's Knitting Experience Series starting with the Knit Stitch:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/189...lance&n=283155

Stitch & B**tch has some funky projects
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/076...lance&n=283155

Good basic book by Debbie Bliss with a more traditional theme
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157...Fencoding=UTF8

Of course, a beginner's class at your local shop is great because they'll help you decipher the confusing world of needle size and type, yarn type, gauge, etc., etc., etc.

    Hi SadieKate,
Well I have one wristie done and I love it! Its even purple to match my bike. I think I'll wear them post ride when my hands are cold. My yarn store had only a few Debbie Bliss so I opted for another brand. I haven't knit in a long time so I had to go to knittinghelp.com to refresh my memory on a few things.
    Thank you again. Great pattern.
