Holy cow.
All you gals are amazing - whipping off 6, 7, 26 (!) mile runs.
I think I turned a corner.
When I started jogging in late February for an April 1st 5K, I did 90% of my training on a treadmill. I did 3 jogs outside in preparation for the event.
Now, I'm training for a 5 miler, and I'm doing most of my training outside. Except today. Today, I was at my gym to give 20 minutes to the rowing machine for a "Maintain Don't Gain" challenge they're running for the holiday season. They run things like this to keep folks motivated. After my 20 minutes, I got on the treadmill for a 2 mile "easy run" - per my training schedule.
And I promptly learned 2 things:
1. Going from bike to run, as when I would do this run after coming home from bike commuting from work, is a WHOLE lot easier on my legs than transitioning from the rowing machine to the treadmill. Holy cow. My legs (and knees!) were toast.
2. My corner I just turned: I really understand now why some call it a "dread-mill". Blech. 25 minutes of slogging on that awful thing at a measly 1% incline was about all I could bear. No wind. No changing scenery. Nothing to run towards ("Okay, I'm gonna sprint to the next mailbox!"). It was just - Pound. Sweat buckets. Watch a few t.v. screens with no sound. Try to figure out the tattoos on the guy on the elliptical in front of me. Sweat buckets. See who's coming and who's going. Pound. Sweat more buckets. Boring. I think I'll try to sneak out of work early next time so I can perhaps get SOME of my run in daylight!
