Why was that chicken crossing the road? She sure didn't look like she knew, just kinda ambling along. But she was causing a bit of a traffic backup; we don't really expect to see chickens going walkabout in this urban neighborhood. But considering the number of folks who keep chickens around here, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often...
Besides the escaped hen, I also saw several houses decked out for Christmas on my 10 miles this morning. Beautiful morning for a run-- 40 F and overcast so it didn't matter that I didn't take along my sunglasses. When I head out before dawn, I never remember to bring them...

Ok, so I am not reporting my run, but what I am doing is standing outside the hotel about to pick up my packet for Sunday's half marathon. I can't believe it is this weekend. Oh well, I'll just do the best I can!
Hopefully I'll have a good race report to post.

I went to The Running Event in Austin this week. TRE is an industry trade show/education seminar event. I learned a TON while there.
Since everyone who attends is a runner (almost all are shop owners or employees), they did a timed 5K run on Wednesday @ 7am. Damn, these people are FAST. There were several hundred entrants. Average men's finishing time was 20 minutes (winner was sub-15:00). Avg female was right at 24 minutes.
Despite setting a new PR (27:48! Yay! ), I was still almost last across the line.

Two towns over they were having a Thanksgiving farmers' market, which they do every year - other markets are done for the season. So I went up there with a plan to go to the market, do a little run on the MUP and pick up the new helmet I'd ordered from the LBS ...
So they were doing registrations for the Turkey Trot at the farmers' market. What the heck - even though it's been close to a year since I did any training for shorter distances. With that in mind, I just did four on the MUP, the first 5K at an enthusiastic pace once I was warmed up.
