    Oh no.

I'm not the praying kind either but I will send warm and healing thoughts your way as well. Hugs to you and your dad.

thank you, everyone, for your kind thoughts.

The nurse called us for a family meeting to discuss our options while my dad was still cognisant. Since there were no treatment options left for him, we all agreed that no heroic measures will be taken to prolong his suffering.

It's happened so very quickly, he was fine Wednesday morning and by Thursday morning he couldn't walk and had difficulty breathing. And now his kidneys have shut down so there's nothing more they can do for him other than to keep him comfortable.

He has a chronic condition that has no cure, but it's taken us all by surprise at how quickly it has come to this point.

The nurses have been amazing, they really are earthbound angels.

I am so sorry, badger. Wishing you strength and courage, and peace of mind.

I'm so glad that in this difficult time, the nurses made it easier on your whole family. I've sat in on many of those family meetings as an ICU nurse, and they're always hard, but it's our hope that we made the experience as peaceful as possible for the family. Some of the most rewarding moments of my life have involved making a patient comfortable as they pass away, surrounded by family. I'm so sorry for your loss, but thankful that your father remained comfortable. Take care of yourself.
