    Indoor Ironman

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'll just start by saying that at this point I'm not even half the woman that you gals are that have done a full Ironman!

I went to my gym (more of a community rec center type place) to swim on Saturday and saw a flyer for an indoor Ironman thing that they are doing. I'm totally going to do it!

It's a challenge to complete the elements of a full Ironman within 10 consecutive days. Participants sign in and their activities are tracked over the 10 days to complete the elements.

It will be challenging for me physically and just because of the time that it will take me, but I'm excited for the challenge.

The indoor Ironman can be completed from November 21 to December 10. I will be out of town for Thanksgiving so I think i'll be starting as soon as I get back. I'm excited!

That sounds awesome! I might suggest this to the management at my YMCA - they often have little challenges like this for their members.

That's a really cool idea. Get to them before they start hibernating!

    Good luck

I love that idea! What a great way to encouage everyone to get moving through the dreaded Thanksgiving holiday!!

When I read the title, tho, I just imagined doing an IM indoors and thought "NEVER!"

It's bad enough outdoors when you're moving. Can't imagine 112 on a stationary bike or a marathon on the treadmill (now the swim- I can imagine that as I've done that in a pool before).

    Neat idea!

(though I'm with TriGirl - the idea of running 26.2 miles on a treadmill gives new meaning to the words 'dread'mill )

Yeah, the idea of doing the whole thing inside all together just seems dreadful!

But, over 10 days that's only 2.6 miles per day on the dreadmill. The swim I'm not worried about. The bike will be super boring. But, I'm going to do it.

I thought it was a really cool idea.

    Update:

Well, I thought I would be doing this after Thanksgiving, but the dates changed around a bit so I started on Saturday.

Day 1 I did 36 laps in the pool (1800 yards), 12 miles on the most horrible stationary bike ever, and 5.5 miles running/walking on the dreadmill.

Day 2 I did 24 miles on the torture cycle and 5.3 miles mostly walking with a little running on the dreadmill.

I'm off to a decent start!

The swim is definitely the easy part for me- at least on this indoor tri. Normally it would be the bike, but not on the torture cycle!

    Day four was yesterday.

I've now done 61/85 laps in the pool.

72/112 miles on the bike (aka torture cycle)

13.4 miles on the treadmill (aka dreadmill)

I'm thinking I should be done on day 8, Saturday, with no problem.

Well, I'm done. I finished in 8 days.

I would have finished faster had I known that there were spin bikes in the back room with odometers! The only ones on the fitness floor don't have an odometer so I was using the terrible bikes. Once I found the spin bikes I knocked out my remaning 40 miles in a little under 2 hours.

The swim was the easiest part for me. The bike wasn't too bad and would've been a breeze had I not done 72 miles of it on the worst stationary bike in history. The run was challenging. I probably walked 70% of it and ran 30%. I've always had trouble with my shins and knees running so I was conservative. My shins and knees hurt pretty bad now, but I'll take some time off from running and let them heal.

Well, actually, I'm doing a sprint tri on Thanksgiving, so I guess they won't be resting too long. I won't run the entire run.

Anyway, I did it. It was fun. It was satisfying. I think it was a great little challenge.
