I was reading a book by Chris Carmichael the other day he said we need 64oz a day just to replace what we use in a day, NOT including exercise.

I drink about 48 ounces of water throughout the day. I drink soda very rarely - never diet. While I'm working out I'll go through a little bit less than a water bottle in an hour.
With dinner I'll drink either 16 - 24 more ounces of water, juice or a water/juice combination.
I also drink coffee in the morning.
V.
I drink about 1,5 litres a day, which is probably 64 oz, right? of water, sometimes a bit less, plus a few cups of green tea or herbal tea, one cup of coffee, a glass of juice in the morning, a little milk in my cereal in the morning and a glass with dinner. If I'm riding, add a bit less than one bottle an hour to that. Maybe I should be drinking more, but when I do it makes me feel weird, and it accelerates my digestion even more, which is not something I need.
For breakfast I have a glass of water and a cup of green tea.
At work I drink a 18 oz. glass of ice tea and probably another 4 - 8 oz of water.
At home, I drink 2 - 3 12 oz glasses of water. I may add a coke on occasion. I usually drink about 8 oz during the night.
So I am around 68 oz each day. That doesn't include what I drink if I'm riding or working out. All that would be additional. I can easily and have gone through a 100 oz bladder of water while riding, especially mountain biking. and if hot, I could go through another full bladder. On a century I did two years ago, where the temperature was around 95 degrees, I went through 3. I still got dehydrated. I found out later I drank too much water and leached out electrolytes. Boy there is a fine line between too much and too little!

Okay, where's the gibberish-metric conversion chart?

Not a chart, but here's a link to an online volume calculator: http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm.Originally Posted by tlkiwi

I really like the way I feel and my skin looks great! If I drink 3 x 32oz before the gym I definately mix with powerade the next bottle. I found that before I upped my oz's I was always thirsty while running/riding and constantly drinking, now I don't require as much while I am exercising so I don't have to worry about falling off the treadmill while trying to drink![]()
I find it weird tho that the more I drink the thirstier I feel? Of course it doesn't fill me up like everyone says it does I am 1/2 way through my 3rd bottle and am hungry! tho I spend lots of time in the little girls room![]()

I find it strange to hear people saying that they drink diet soda but not juice. Come on! Diet soda is garbage compared to juice. Yeah juice may give you some extra calories but they aren't empty calories. Orange juice is going to give you vitamins and fiber! We all need more fiber.
I don't drink enough water at all, I know that much.
You're right - diet soda provides no nutrients. But sometimes that's what I want to drink. And in moderation, I think that's OK. After all, we all have to make our own choices. And you're absolutely right that we all need a good amount of fiber. I usually get mine from cereal and from fresh fruit.Originally Posted by triflor
I usually choose fresh fruit over juice. And I was very curious about your statement that you get fiber from orange juice. I wasn't aware that there was any fiber at all in orange juice, so I went and looked it up. (My source for this information was http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/etext/000020.html.)
What I found was that 1 raw orange (with a diameter of 2 7/8 inches) provides 69 calories and 3.1 grams of fiber. An 8 ounce glass of orange juice (raw, from the fruit as opposed to concentrate) was 112 calories and had only 0.5 grams of fiber. Maybe you're drinking some kind of juice that has fiber added?

I read somewhere one time that you need to drink 1/2 your bodyweight in ounces. IE a 130 lb woman should drink 65 oz a day. Obviously that needs to be adjusted up on active days. I try to use that as a guide. It doesn't have to be just water--liquids--even in stuff like oranges. Add more ounces if you consume caffiene.
Cheers Denise. You're either some kind of Google goddess or you have an extremely long list of bookmarks.
Anyway, I drink about 2L (68oz) of water on a no-specific-exercise, not-too-hot kind of a day. The day always starts with a good drink of water, maybe 300mL (10oz) and a cup of coffee. I fill my drinkbottle and sip from it throughout the day, I'd guess having around 1500mL (51oz) between then and about 7pm/dinnertime. I usually have a glass of water with dinner too. I often have a mug of green/herbal/fruit tea after dinner. On cold days I often have an extra two or three cups of coffee/tea to help warm up. The tea usually replaces a drink of water, but the coffee is extra. Obviously, if it's hot and/or I'm getting some proper excercise (running for the train/bus doesn't count), I'll drink more. I don't drink much soda or juice at present, largely because it makes for a freakin' heavy backback on the walk back from the supermarket. I grew up in a town with a very clean water supply, so I guess that has helped me grow up with good water-drinking habits. I certainly had to make myself drink water when I first moved to London - not the tastiest tap water here.
