    Back in the saddle...

Tomorrow I was going to ride my new trainer at the house, but I decided that I needed to go to the lake to ride and get it over with. This will be my first ride since I hit the dog at the lake :-0 I didn't think that I would be nervous, but I am a little bit.

I am on the route safetly crew for the 3day in DFW in two weeks. I'll be monitoring the route from my bike for the weekend, so I figured I needed to get back out on the road. My elbow is still quite sore, so no aero bars for me. My Dr had told me to wait at least a week after my concussion symptoms went away and it has been about a week and a half...I guess I have no more excuses.

I'll be taking it slow and hopefully it will be an uneventful ride!

abejita, how did it go? I plan to go for a ride with my dad this weekend, the first ride since my daughter's wreck a week ago. I hope you got your first ride in, and a second, so that you can tell me how much easier the 2nd one was!

    I did it!

We rode 27 miles. We have a stiff SW wind so we headed north and east, and after a couple hours called my mom to pick us up. That 19 mph wind really pushed us along. Going up the hills we could feel the wind pushing on our backs.

It was about 40F, which is a little chilly for a recreational ride. (I'll ride in any weather for transportation, but not recreation!) I alternated between my ski gloves and the lighter gloves. Every time we stopped, the wind chilled us so we never stopped long. It is a typical gloomy November day, so unlike the unseasonably sunny & dry November we've been having.

Instead of driving out to the state park, we left straight from home, so I did bike on That Road. That didn't bother me much. The idea of coming home on That Road, and making that fateful left turn, makes me a little nervous still but I think I'll be fine when I actually do it.

It was kind of odd getting on my bike knowing that the last time I rode it ended with my daughter's wreck. But I forgot all about that after a half mile.

I won't be completely at ease on my next ride but I know I can handle it now.

While we're having bike victories...I just rode the cursed mountain bike to the hospital I stayed at and back Some low back pain on the hills but I still managed to stay in the big gear the whole time! And I was clipped in, since I can't change my own pedals

(I still feel like my weight is too far forward though. Little sketched out going downhill)

And melalvai, sooo glad you were able to get back on and go for it! Was Nell worried for you?

Yes, definitely well done with all the bike victories, especially after nasty accidents etc.

My ride one day this week was not much of a victory, only about 4 miles and when I rode past the place I fell and broke my back 7 months ago, I just rode home blubbing, now how pathetic is that!

abejita, let us all know how the ride goes.

Doesn't sound pathetic at all. Sounds like you stared down your fear right in the face, rode right past it, and conquered. Crying is a natural reaction and not pathetic at all. I was in a bad car accident a few years ago (fortunately I walked away unscathed after being t-boned, flipping and rolling) that really traumatized me, and I still react to some level every time I pass that intersection when I go to visit my parents.
