I have a mountain bike race on Saturday. So I'm doing a couple of easy runs. A 2-miler and a 3-miler.

I started a new base-building plan last night. The goal for the first many weeks is consistent running. This week it is 3 mile easy pace runs, every other day. That'll be three runs this week, and four the next. Last night was 3 mile run number 1. I mapped out a bunch of options from my work and chose a route I'd never really run before. When I got to 3.1 miles, I walked the remaining 0.25 mile back to the parking lot as my 'cool down'. All good. I wore my Terra Plana's because my VFF's gave me a blister the last time I wore them.

Funny thing about today. Today I am a bit achey in my lower body even though I only did 3 miles at an easy pace. Last Thursday I did 4 miles at a faster pace and had no aches at all. The difference? Last Thursday I showered and then put on my Zoot compression RX recovery tights and wore them for 3 hours. I didn't bother this time. What a difference!

    I had another thought, too.

A couple of weeks ago I read something about iron. As much as I hate taking dietary advice from magazine articles, I realized that since the rabbits ate my chard to the ground I really hadn't had much greens since the spring crops bolted. So I started taking iron pills.

Really didn't notice any difference on the long runs and figured I probably wasn't deficient... but it occurs to me that oxygen transport really wouldn't be that much of an issue at low intensity anyway. Maybe it was that as much as the temperature that made last night's workout so good.

    Either way, all good.

3.5 miles (.3 of that was walking) on the treadmill today (steady, cool rain outside). Looking forward to some fall runs outside when it dries up out there!

Easy stuff for me after the century on Saturday... did 2 on Tuesday, 2 on Wednesday, will do three tonight and possibly three tomorrow (it's raining this week so better running than riding.)

Ankle has been fine throughout.... I think laziness is good for it.
I can do five more miles.

So I ran 3 days in a row this week, all pretty good runs. Tues 4 miles on treadmill with middle 2 miles speed work. Wed AM 4 miles outside, pushed myself some & satisfied with pace. Still not where I want to be but getting there. Then today was my 10 miler. Started slow & easy. Then latter half I kicked up pace some. My half marathon is about 7 weeks out. I think I can hit 2:20 ok, but need/want 2:09! So very focused training now!
