I feel everyone's pain here. I need bifocals to change a tire, but am currently running contacts with Oakleys. I can't cough up the cash for super glasses, and can't stand all the wind that rushes around normal frames. I'm considering wearing a motorcycle helmet with a tinted visor when I ride.
I dunno.
Lookit, grasshopper....
I have a REALLY bad astigmatism (It's been nearly 6 months and I still don't have contacts that fit!!!). But I was lucky enough to get wrap sunglasses through Rudy Project. They are the kind that have inserts in them - my astigmatism is so bad that I can't wear Oakleys or other brands that wrap because they cant get my prescription to work. I love these sunglasses! They offer great protection, even when down in the drops. If I'm out riding in my daily wear Oakleys (transition lenses, "flat" frames), it's hard for me to see when in the drops because I'm looking either right into the top of the frame or over it.
I know a lot of people don't like inserts, but it's a plus for me - I bought them as prescription glasses, so the insurance paid for them, but when I'm in contacts, I can wear the same sunglasses by just popping out the insert. One less pair of sunglasses I have to buy!
They fit under my helmet, don't slide down my face when I look down, I wear them playing softball and for triathlons. Not that I'm a commercial, I am just really excited to have athletic Rx sunglasses that stay on my face no matter what I'm doing.

I'm also watching this thread with interest. I'm shopping too, and while I don't know my prescription off the top of my head, I'm betting it's too high for Oakleys or other wraps.
At least I don't leave slime trails.

Saving for the next one...
My prescription was too high for Oakley's according to most sources, but the people at Heavy Glare informed me that they have a different technology that can adjust for higher prescriptions, so I ordered from them. I'll know how they are in 2 days when they are delivered....

Wowser.. those can be mighty expensive. I'll have to do some browsing and see if I can find a pair that I can get in my RX and still be in the budget. I think the first one I looked at was the "Oakly" style, curved lens, but it was right at $500.
Maybe something full frame, but still stylish would be less, so I'll take a look later tonight... we're going to try and get in a ride after work.

+1. I have a different model from Rudy (one called Exception). I never use contacts, but I love being able to change the lenses. And, if I go into a coffee shop, I can still see, either flipping up the lenses or removing them. That is a huge bonus for me. For those who use contacts, in these type of glasses, you can also remove the prescription insert and snap in sun lenses.

This was a huge bonus for me when I bought them!
As you probably know, getting any Rx with a bad astigmatism is expensive; the bigger the lense, or more the angle on it, the more it costs. With the inserts, they are small and "flat" and thus a lot less expensive than "regular" glasses. I spent $500 on my daily Oakleys with transition, light weight, UV lenses. Sunglasses already have the protection I needed, and the insert it small and light weight - with my insurance, I paid $120 for my Rudys.

For about $40 i get these EagleEye fit-over polarized sunglasses that fit right over my regular prescription glasses, and wrap around for full wind protection...and I just LOVE them:
