    Great pics of the herons, Zen - if you paddle on the Potomac around dc, the herons are so used to humans they will let you get quite close without moving.

    Herons always make the bird/dinosaur/reptile link look very obvious to me.

    I was paddling in the Northern Neck over the weekend (no pics sorry) and a Great Blue Heron was on a low branch and swooped right over my head, croaking like they do. I about fell in the water. They are huge up close, and very pterodactyl-like.
