    Braid

I use the pony-tail holders mentioned already that are without metal.

But, to add one other tip on preventing damage that my hair stylists gave to me... try adding a braid also.

The hair stylists said that if the pony tail is lose that the wind blowing & hair thrashing might add to the damage.

So, I pony-tail at the base of the skull through the retention portion of the helmet... single long braid the hair out the back... and one more pony-tail holder at the end of the braid.

It also helps with wet sweaty hair not sticking to your back as well. It's just a bit heavy feeling tho is only draw back.

    Good Luck.

how about taking the end of your braid and feeding it back up through the hole in your helmet and letting the end dangle. A friend of mine whose braid is hip length, does this with great success.

When my hair was long I preferred to braid it in two braids. When I got done my hair was not a tangled mess and my hair did stay less damaged. Two braids were easier for me to do so that was my main reason for doing two but it is also was a lighter feeling than a ponytail held with the Hair Glove.

I use scrunchies from CVS and Target, and the Goody's elastics, and I've never had either stretch out on me or break. I've got medium hair, I guess. It's pretty straight, unless it's humid out, and thick, but also fine.

I usually just pull my hair into a low pony tail for cycling with a scrunchie. I use the elastics for a ponytail to tuck up under my swim cap. They're actually my daughter's. I started using them when she and I started swimming together and wearing swim caps. Those thick scrunchies were hard to fit under the swimcap.
