The mens has (very) slightly easier gears. There's no good or bad about that. The key is does the bit FIT?

Sorry for the dumb newbie question, but the LBS is trying to get me to purchase a Mens Sirrus Comp (2010) in XS because they don't have the Womens Vita Comp in S. I noticed one of the different specs was the crankset. Womens Vita Comp is 50x39x30 and the Mens Sirrus is 48x38x28.
What does this difference mean, and is it good or bad?
